Synopsis: A fiery young woman with a debilitating and misdiagnosed disease (Lyme Disease) travels to a tiny clinic in India for a controversial embryonic stem cell treatment. On the journey to save her miserably failing body, she finds a world of cultural mayhem, radical medical treatment, and most importantly, a piece of her life that she never even knew she was searching for.
Why do some people heal from emotional or physical issues, while others don’t? Through extensive research and her own recovery experience, Amy finds the most important piece for her own healing—the impact of unprocessed negative emotions on our physical bodies. This powerful and uplifting story of sheer determination is for anyone who believes in—or doubts—the existence of miracles and the infinite power of self-healing.
Review: This was a very interesting read from the beginning! It definitely gives you the flip side of the stem-cell debate, and personalizes it to you, the reader. I knew it was going to be an intriguing when I had turned down 4 pages to come back to, and I hadn't even gotten through 2 chapters! I think the moment of reality check at the beginning of the book, over the stem cell debate, is when Amy states that unused embryos are discarded EVERY day at fertility clinics, via simple throwing them away. Think about that for a moment. These embryos are composed of less than 4 cells total, and are the surplus eggs that are retrieved, but not used. When you stop and look BEYOND the propaganda, and at this reality, suddenly stem cell research has a whole other side that the public doesn't get to see. Amy is being very brave and honest in telling her story and how the benefits have been so much worth the headache of having to go to India repeatedly for treatment. She brings to life a side of India that many may not have seen or heard about.
Amy's story is at it's heart a story if inspiration and what the human character can not only overcome, but achieve. It was an eye opener to see how the cells are given to the patient, and how the cells themselves have to 'learn' and mature, and then the patient 'heals' and is returned to a more 'normal' state. By the end of the tale you want to cheer for Amy, her parents, her doctors, nurses and India for keeping health care reasonable and available to anyone. You may also find yourself very anti-capitalistic ran health care! It is amazing how we can scream for insurance reform, when the problem is health care costs that have no stopping point. Perhaps cost regulation would inheritently bring more people into having insurance, as insurance costs go back down! And this is what Amy's book does- it makes you THINK, along with cheering for her recovery.
By the end of the book, you will see that the author had a very valid point when she prefaced Chapter One with the following quote from Mike Dooley (Notes from the Universe), "What if every unexpected delay, postponement, or redirect, meant tat the very last second, right before the scheduled manifestation, the Universe had an even better idea for you?"
In fact the book may make you step back from your own life and reassess where you stress, why and what you can change! I get a personal remind every time I where the gorgeous turquoise beaded bracelet that Amy made and gifted to some of her book reviewers! Thanks Amy for the gorgeous piece, and for being an inspiration to all your readers! Please, everyone pick this book up and read it- you will NOT be disappointed!
