Product Review and Giveaway: 20 Mule Team Borax

If you are of a certain age, then the tern "20 Mule Team Borax" may bring back fond memories of Grandma's house!

If not, you may not have ever heard of it!

20 Mule Team Borax Powder laundry booster has been around since 1891!  Yes, one hundred and twenty two years! So you know it's a product that WORKS! Check out this vintage commercial:

And it is 100% natural- made from a mineral from the earth, sodium tetraborate (say that three times fast will ya?), so it's healthy to use too. Sodium tetraborate is produced by the perpetual evaporation of seasonal lakes. Once it is removed, washed and dried, it is boxed for consumer use! Nothing is added- no phosphates, chlorine, or other chemicals!

Did you know that almost 85% of homes in the US have hard water?

borax powder
Ours does! Hard water is water that has calcium and magnesium ions. You may realize it when you wash your hair and it just doesn't come out squeaky clean, but sorta lack luster- odds are you have hard water! When you add regular detergent to hard water, some compounds attach to the calcium and magnesium granules in the hard water and settle on the bottom of your washing machine, and eventually leave through the drain, never actually CLEANING your clothes and wasting your money!

20 Mule Team Borax is different- it naturally softens hard water (just add 1/2 cp to every load), protecting your detergent, so it can maximize its cleaning power, and remove stains (and odors) from being re-deposited back onto your clothes. In fact, you may say 'wow those colors are bright' after you wash a load with added 20 Mule Team Borax powder, like I did! Kiddo's clothes were much brighter, as were the towels. In fact, the towels smelled super fresh (and I didn't use my normal crystals, as I was out of them). Definite improvement! I'll be putting our's in an easy to access canister and putting it next to the liquid detergent so we always remember to use it!

In fact, my box came the day after I realized that I needed to BUY some, as I had ran out of dishwasher tabs the night before and after a quick Google search, realized that if I had Borax powder I could make my own powder! All you need is one part baking soda, a little salt, and 1 part Borax (you can add a lemon kool aid pack to help)! Yes it works in a pinch, I just don't put any plastics in, as they don't clean as well with it. But it's handy to know it can cover you late at night, when all the dishes are in the dishwasher and you need them for breakfast!

In fact, you can even make your own detergent using Borax (Borax, washing powder and a bar soap, like Castille's or Ivory), different people like different combinations, so if you're interested in that, just check out any search engine!
