Product Review: Revlon Photoready Primer Shadow and Sparkle Eyeshadow

When deciding what to wear for the Better with M premier last week, I came across the new Revlon
Photoready Primer Shadow and Sparkle Eyeshadow and thought it would be the perfect shadow palette to go with the dress I already had.

Due to being able to use the combinations wet or dry, I decided to go through a 'dry run' so to speak and see how each version looked, with and without primer, and figure out how to wear it. I also wanted to let you guys know how it did, in case you were considering buying one of the Photoready Primer Shadow and Sparkle Eyeshadow palettes for your use.

There are also 4 other color collections to choose from. The palette is priced around $10, but you do get your money's worth!

As you can see, it has 3 eye shadows- eyelid, crease and brow area. Then there is a primer and a glitter/sparkle accent shadow, for a total of 5 eye shadows per palette. All of the shadows are highly pigmented for extra shine and reflection.

I had seen a review on YouTube and the reviewer commented that you really need to use primer with the palette, that the included primer is really more to build up the colors, versus keeping them in place.

Note: Forgive the facial redness below- I didn't put any primer on my face, just the eye area, I wasn't thinking about doing this review until AFTER I had done the shadows and was in a hurry and didn't have time to run back upstairs and throw on facial primer (to get rid of the redness).

Both eyes have eye shadow primer put on under the shadows.

On the LEFT are the shadows used DRY. I did use the crease shadow as eyeliner by using it wet. As you can see it works very well for that. I used the shadows exactly as the palette said to, with ONE exception, I put a little bit of WHITE photo shadow I have just under the brow and on the inside of the eye, for more POP.

On the RIGHT are the shadows used over still WET primer. As you can see, you get a MUCH darker look. Again, I used the crease shadow wet for eyeliner.

Here is what it looked like with eyes open:

I went with the look on the left, and just revised it a bit, using dry primer underneath, plus the primer shadow, to get a normal smokey eye, using the white photo shadow, as above. It photographed really well, and looked great at the Better with M premier! I like the wet look, it was just darker than what I wanted for the event. It will be better as a Spring/Summer night look.

I know you are all wondering about how well it lasted.

I had it on for almost eight hours and did NOT touch it up any- it was fine during the event, and actually just creased up on the LONG drive home! I was actually impressed it lasted that long!

Overall, I'd say the palette was well worth the cost, to have a set of colors that work well together, you just might want to play with it some and see how you prefer to use the shadows. The colors can be more intense than what they look like on the shelf (the mint is REALLY bright for instance), but they need a primer underneath them to build them up, to get that intensity you see on the palette). I recommend them, especially if you need to build up your eye shadow collection!
