Earlier this week, I told you about my experiences with some of the tuna pouches, and today I'm going to share a recipe that uses their new Tuna Creations Sweet & Spicy pouch!
My inspiration came from a recipe I saw on a newsletter email from Hidden Valley, for Cold Peanut Noodles with Chicken. I figured chicken, tuna, sorta the same thing, so it should work right?
Right, but then I got to thinking that the pouches are so great for taking to work, or for a quick lunch, and I though, what if we altered the recipe to things you might have with you at work, and want to make it super quick for lunch?
Lightbulb!
SO here we go:
Sweet & Spicy Tuna Peanut Ramen
The ingredients:
That would be chopped up celery and carrots, with garlic powder, onion powder and a touch of paprika.
The Directions:
1. Boil the ramen noodles in the amount of water needed in the microwave.
2. Drain half the water out ( I placed my in saucepan to get a better pix, but in theory you would mix in the bowl you microwaved them in.
3. Add your chopped ingredients you brought, the packet of dried spices from the ramen packet, the contents of the tuna pouch, and a dollop of peanut butter, which means about 1 to 2 tablespoons. I'd lean to 1 and then add more after the final tasting.
Now I made the mistake on the original recipe (when I took the pictures) of adding too much peanut butter and not enough water-hence there is more peanut butter than there should be in the picture, and not enough water. Sorry Charlie, I forgot to take a second pix on the second trial of the recipe....
4. Now Mix everything together, and you're done. You can put it in the fridge to cool if you want cold noodle version! Again, mine is a little too thick- less peanut butter and more water would be better. But the taste wasn't too bad at all! We had a taste testing at work, and even the guys said they wold eat it!
Overall, the Tuna Creations Sweet and Spicy pouch wasn't really to my liking (I prefer plain or lemon pepper tuna), but for cooking in a recipe, or over a salad, it could be a great addition.
Starkist has a great salad app to help you come up with a yummy salad! In fact, Starkist has a whole recipe section to help you find new recipes for tuna!
