Does Tuna Taste the Same from a Can or a Pouch?

Have you seen the new Starkist single serve tuna pouches?

If you're like me, you probably have, but thought "I don't know, isn't it gonna be dry?"
and passed on buying it.

Thanks to Smiley360, I recently got the chance to get the answer to that question!

Always start with the basics and move on has been Mom's motto,
so as I was sent a variety of the packets, I started with the Low Sodium Chunk Light pouch.

As you can see, if there is any 'water' it's dehydrated!
Doesn't look like much does it?

But here is what it looks like when taken out of the bag and fluffed with a fork:

Not too bad, huh?

Taste wise, it actually tasted fresher than ye old can!
AND it was JUST the right amount for one serving,
with a little mayo and mustard added (sorry, I can NOT do dry tuna) it was yummy!

What I really loved was that there was NO mess!
So if you're at work and open a pouch, there is no icky water all over you or your desk,
that you will smell for days!

AND best of all, each pouch has UNDER 100 calories,
so they are a dieter's best friend!

Our next selection was the albacore packets, and we combined them to make some
good old comfort food- Tuna Casserole!
We had it Saturday after the parade, when everybody was too exhausted to cook!
Needing only 4 ingredients made it simple and we could relax while it cooked!
The taste was perfect- in fact- it tasted better than the canned too!

My next pick was the Zesty Lemon Pepper and it looked just as good as the chunk light above,
AND had a super mild lemon pepper taste! It would be great for salads!
Starkist has a great salad app to help you come up with a yummy salad!
In fact, Starkist has a whole recipe section to help you find new recipes for tuna!

If you join the Starkist community you can get special coupons and sweepstakes too!
They also share them on their Facebook and Twitter pages too!

So head on over and join up, then use your coupon to go try a Single Serve Pouch
for yourself,  and answer the question if a pouch is better than a can!

I did and my answer is a resounding "YES IT IS!"

Here's a tidbit for you- did you know the brand Starkist has been around since 1942?
Yup, the company was actually The French Sardine company, started in 1918,
when 5 investors formed it to meet the government's military needs in WWI.

So now you know some Tuna tidbits....LOL

  1. I love the pouches for salads. I use the cans for cooking and making tuna salad, but find the pouches tastier and ready for eating plain or just dumping on my green salads,

  2. I've had these before and I really like tuna in a pouch.

For starters, I cannot stand getting 'tuna juice' on my hands and having to remove all of the water inside the can. Secondly, I think it tastes fresher, and lastly, it's cool that you have the option for flavored pouch tuna. I've tried the Lemon Pepper and it's a different taste.
