If you're like the rest of us, keeping your kids EXCITED about what they are learning is not just a concept, it's a hard sought after job! So when you can find a DVD that can get them excited about Science, it's something to check out!

Janet's Planet “Exploring Microgravity”  is a 37-minute exploration of gravity and microgravity. Not only is it fun to watch, it's highly educational and geared towards elementary school age kids!

By focusing on science, technology, engineering, art and math, Janet's Planet travels at the "speed of thought" and is designed to fuel S.T.E.A.M. (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art and Mathematics). Gravity’s phenomena and effects are explained and the audience gets to meet Galileo, Newton and Cavendish, and find out how they built on the ideas of scientists before them, and formed a shared picture of how the universe works! You’ll also get a chance to see Janet on board the Zero G plane experiencing microgravity!

The video is really aimed more at 2nd-5th graders, but I was happy to see that Miss Grace was interested in it and that it kept her attention. Some of the concepts were still over her head, pun intended, but others she readily grasped and could ask some pretty good questions about! She loved the part with Janet on the Zero G plane, and of course wants to go on one too! I think it is a super introduction to the concepts for her, and I know it will help her later in school. I think it would help spark interest in kids about the Space Program, something that for my generation was a dream, but for Miss Grace's, not so much, with the depletion of the NASA program.

I love that the DVD is supported with integrated curriculum and a lesson plan designed to integrate with Common Core standards, based on a curriculum endorsed by NASA and Space Florida, making the dvd perfect for teachers and home schoolers alike!
Additional DVDS and cds on different topics are available at Janet's Planet Space Blog! And your kids can test their knowledge of Space along with Janet on her game page!

“For the past decade, science education has been my passion and America’s children have been my inspiration.  It is incredible to see how excited children can become about the world around them when the information is presented in an accessible and fun way.  That is the mission of Janet’s Planet, and I look forward to continuing to support better science education in the years to come.”  says Janet Ivey.
