How to Keep Your Kids Learning While Having Fun!

Shhhhhh.......

It's a secret for us grown ups only.

Get them one of the 3 magazines published by Saturday Evening Post Society
(yes, the same company your grandparents and parents grew up reading magazines from,
in fact they've been around for 300 YEARS, and still active),
under the name U.S. Kids,
and watch them LEARN while they think they are having FUN!

I have fond memories of the magazines, as my parents and grandparents
got me subscriptions as gifts over the years I was growing up, but I hadn't seen them in years,
and I was interested to see if they had changed!

The magazines cover your child from the ages of 3 to 12- pretty much all their learning needs!
We were sent the 3 recent issues to review with Miss Grace!

turtle magazine cover

Turtle (ages 3-5): Even the little ones can make their own snacks with Turtle’s Bananaflies (p.20) – easy snacks that look like butterflies made out of bananas, chocolate chips, and pretzels. For the artistic ones, Turtle teaches kids how to make Lilac Prints (p.30) using lilacs, paint, and paper plates.

What did Miss Grace think?
Well she grabbed it from me, snagged a pen off my desk and ran for her room!
I had to laugh at her excitement and how she fought homework earlier in the day,
yet was running through all the activities in the book at subsonic speed!
I managed to snag a pix of her doing the phonics/matching page, but barely!
We also had a great time reading the stories together!!!

humpty dumpty magazine cover

Humpty Dumpty (ages 5-7): Just in time for St. Patrick’s Day on March 17thHumpty Dumpty shares a kid-friendly recipe for Shamrock Shakes (p.16), bright green shakes made with lime sherbet, milk, and bananas. Then to help kids watch March come in like a lion and go out like a lamb, Humpty Dumpty features a Weather Chart (p.30) craft project that allows kids to keep track of the weather every day of the week.

I didn't let Miss Grace know I had another magazine until the next evening.
It was definitely deja vu as she grabbed the pen and was off and running again!
As you can see, she went straight for the matching and word activities again!
I loved that the spelling page had words she had read at homework time that very day-
great reenforcement! AND she was thrilled she was able to complete the little crossword too!

We read the stories together, and she was very happy to know that she could make
the 'Shamrock Shakes" at home now!

jack and jill magazine cover

Jack and Jill (ages 7-12):Kids can get busy in the kitchen with Jack and Jill’s recipe for Granny Adair’s Pistachio Cookies (p.13), which are easy to make and incorporate lots of great nutrients with ingredients including avocado and pistachios. For the more craft-inclined, Jack and Jill has all the info kids need to make their very own Hand-Painted Silk Scarf (p.26) that they can wear all spring long.

Miss Grace and I looked at the magazine, but the activities were well over her age level. Older kids will definitely love the graphic comic style story and the cute Leprechaun one too!

Over all we were very happy with the quality of all 3 magazines and we highly recommend
gifting a subscription to your child for Easter, their Birthday or even Christmas!
They are truly the gift that keeps on giving!
AND at under $2.00 an issue (publish bi-monthly), a pretty good bargain too!
