Thanks to One2One I was able to preview Rod Stewart's new album (why do we still say album, when they don't release vinyl, but on cd????), Time, which is being released  tomorrow, the 7th!

time cover

This cd in many ways is one that has taken Stewart a lifetime to write, to have the experience to sing, and most of all, to show that he hasn't lost his musical touch at all!

It seems like I grew up with Stewart's music, because I pretty much did! He hit the US with "Maggie May" when I was young, and he rocked my teens years. Stewart has ventured in many vast directions since then, been through multiple marriages and had children at an older age, and all of that experience and heartbreak and joy have led to this album. He wrote 11 of the 12 tracks (as well as producing them), something different for him.

The album was born from a burst of inspiration that came while Rod was reviewing his life for his recent memoir. Rod rediscovered his voice as a songwriter, and rekindled his gift for writing the honest, nerve-touching narratives that have been the cornerstone to the first three decades of his career.

"Suddenly ideas for lyrics were piling up in my head," he says. "Next thing I knew, I had a song called 'It's Over' about divorce and separation. And now I was getting up in the middle of the night and scrambling for a pen to write things down, which has never happened to me. I finished seven or eight songs very quickly and I still wasn't done, and it became apparent that I would eventually have a whole album of material to record."

They were some pretty good ones too! Check out the preview video:
