We all know National Geographic and it's yellow magazine cover. In fact we just started Miss Grace on a subscription, and she devours EVERY issue, asking questions and remembering what she has learned. So I was happy to learn about Novica, their internet fair trade shop that they creates to bridge the gap between you (the consumer) and the many talented artisans across the globe (the producers). They wanted the buyer to know about who they were buying from, to feel an attachment to the product and to the hands that created it.
I have to say they have succeeded amazingly! Their products are not only unique, but gorgeous, and hard to find! So I was VERY happy to be able to bring them to you!
Novica has items you didn't know you even needed, like this gorgeous pair of elephant platters, that are perfect for breads, meatloafs, and meat:
And purses and totes perfect for Summer at the beach, like this mermaid bag:
Not to mention apparel, scarves, jewelry, home decor, and some pretty amazing art pieces. In fact, everything at Novia IS a piece of art, one way or another! And to recognize that fact, Novica has recently started a Curator program!
It's very simple to start- you just sign up to be a registered user, denote why you want to be a curator, fill in your info and start selecting items to 'curate' into your art gallery! It's like Pinterest for the coolest, most artistic items. AND when you share them on Facebook, Twitter, or other platform, you bring exposure to the artists who made the items by hand! Plus it is super easy to buy an item straight from the Curator Gallery you are looking at, as all you have to do is to click on the item and you are taken straight to the Novica store, where you can purchase it! Or you can curate it into one of your galleries! You can even win prizes for your curations!
Need inspiration? Check out Elizabeth Gilbert's (of Eat Pray Love fame) curator collection, or check out the gallery of collections! I made up a Summer Love collection, as there are just so many wonderful items for Summer! Check it out:
I was thrilled to be able to order a lace filigree silver jewelry set for Summer! I love the work, as it reminds me of the iron work around New Orleans!
Made in Thailand, the pieces arrived in gorgeous Novica drawstring bags, accompanied by a card from 'Team Thailand" thanking me for the purchase, along with a Thai phrase, written in their language. very cool for gift giving! Both pieces are crafted by Aoy, where they feel it is their 'duty to preserve the ancient art form of hand crafted jewelry'. The Moonlight Lace ring is perfect as a knuckle ring (hint, it runs small, so order up a size) and echoes the swirls in the Filigree Diamond bracelet. Both pieces are SO light, you hardly feel any weight too them, making them comfortable for all day way. I love my set and have received numerous compliments and questions about it already!
If you are looking for a unique gift, you need to check out Novica. But remember, these are pieces of art- there aren't rhousands of them sitting in a warehouse! SO if you see something you want, you might want to hurry and buy it, or it might be back ordered for a while (like the original item I tried to select!). The prices are really worth the quality of the products! You can even save $7 on your first order!
