Ah, Mother's Day- the day we are supposed to get breakfast in bed, as we get honored for being "the best mom ever!"

According to a recent survey by Quaker, more than 90% of moms feel that there is no definition of the perfect mom or that it means different things to different people. Take a look:

Quaker is here to help serve up a little bit of perfect during family breakfast time with their new Quaker Perfect Portions, a multiserve instant oatmeal.

The new otameal comes in two flavors, Cinnamon and Maple, is in a convenient, re-sealable package for a truly customizable oatmeal (from the serving size to the type of toppings), and eady in minutes using water or milk. Now you can stay at home and get that wonderful customized oatmeal, like you get at the fast food places!

Quaker Perfect Portions allows families to enjoy oatmeal the way they want, because they can make a little or make a lot and sweeten their way. And you know oatmeal is HEALTHY for you and your kids:

  • Every spoonful of oatmeal is power ed by whole grain oats
  • The oatmeal contains no added sugar so everyone can created their perfect bowl of oatmeal, adding whatever sweetener they want - perfect for dieters an kids alike
  • Both flavors are a good source of fiber (per 45 gram serving)
  • They do not contain any trans fats
  • They are both low in saturated fat (contains 3 grams total fat per serving)
We were very impressed with how EASY it was to customize our oatmeal. For example, I used brown sugar to sweeten the Maple flavor (using  1 1/2 tbsp) and made mine with milk. Dad likes his made with water and added 3 tbs sugar to his. Miss Grace is NOT a huge oatmeal fan, so for her, extra milk, cinnamon, brown sugar and apples are a must! Whew. But easy peasy with just the ONE bag! You WILL need to add sugar, as most of us don;t realize how MUCH sugar is in the normal packets. Your taste buds may scream FOUL when presented with a totally unsweetened oatmeal, as it is such a big difference! But you can do like I did and use a different sugar, a sugar substitute or even agave!

Quaker Perfect Portions is on shelves in select Walmart, Kroger, Publix, Safeway, Roundy’s and Walgreens stores and available nationwide at a suggested retail price of $2.29 per package, making it pretty reasonable, as far as breakfast foods go!

We also found another way to use the Quaker Perfect Portions- cooking!

As you may be aware, the Zurich Golf Classic was playing in New Orleans this week. One of the legends from the Classic is the Oatmeal Chocolate Chip cookies, that all the golfers beg for! So I looked at the recipe and decided the Quaker Perfect Portions might be a great addition. Check out the recipe:

We substituted the Cinnamon Quaker Perfect Portions oats for the 3 cups above, and separated the mixture into 2 batches, half got chocolate chips, and the other got butterscotch chips. The results? YUMMY, even picky Miss Grace gave them 2 thumbs up!

You can make the cookies thicker, just bake longer. These are perfect for the Summer months, as you can sneak in some cranberries, raisins, yogurt raisins, and other fruit, to make a healthy snacking cookie for the kids! Sorta like breakfast in a cookie. Or a 'Mom You are the BEST!" moment!
