Earlier this week I told you about a great new series from Downtown Bookworks, their Into the Field Guides, but they also have another science series that will help you avoid Summer brain drain AND give the kids some great hands on science education too!

books titles that are packed with amazing photos and information about subjects
with tremendous kid appeal—
sharks, space, pre-historica, insects, and oceanic creatures, and each one comes with a cool collectible, related to the book's topic (ie a dried bug, shark tooth or even a fossil!) !

We were recently sent the newly released Sea-Sational book to review!
Miss Grace thought it was Christmas come early when the package arrived from Downtown Bookworks! She is SERIOUSLY into nature and animals, and quickly claimed all three books as "MINE", and was off to go actually READ them (see the Into the Field Guide review). Like a kid who holds the big present for last, holding out the anticipation, Miss Grace kept Sea-Sational for last, as she saw the sand dollat and starfish on the cover, and was hoping they were real!

Synopsis:  perfect for curious kids- this amazing undersea exploration book sheds light on the most interesting ocean inhabitants with vibrant and stellar photos. A sea star and sand dollar are awesome extras
Review: Miss Grace was equally enraptured with this book! The photos are SO eye-catching, that you can't help to look. And because the books are aimed at age 6 and up, the accompanying info was easy for her to read and understand- PLUS! We had watched Finding Nemo the night before, so she had to show me all the fish in the book that were in the movie and tell me something about them, examples being:
- a starfish can come back from having only ONE limb!
- the hotter the water, the longer the male seahorse is pregnant-ewww, good thing that doesn't apply to humans!
-a Notothen fish can live in an iceberg (see pix below) because he has antifreeze in his blood

The last page explains about the included items-did you know a starfish's eyes are on the tips of it's legs? Or that sea stars can have more than 5 legs? Or that the sand dollars mouth is in the middle of it's star?
Yup- cool stiff! I can't wait until we take Miss Grace back to the aquarium and take this guide with us- she will love pointing all the fish in the book out to everyone in the aquarium, and telling tidbits about them,  I know!
This series is wonderful! Miss Grace immediately informed me that she needed the rest of them! If you are looking for some great home-school guides too, you will love these Science with Stuff books too!
We can't recommend the Downtown Bookmarks kids books enough for keeping the 'I'm Boreds' away!
