Product Review: Rescue W H Y (Wasp Hornet Yellow Jacket) Trap Will Keep Your Family Safe This Summer!
It's Summer and that means the kids are going to be outside,
and in the pool, and you know what that means.....
"MOM, there's a bee...."
"MOM I just got stung by a wasp...."
and the
"YEEEEEEEEEEEE, MMMMOOOOOOOM"
(as they get chased by multiple hornets.....)
Sigh, the sounds of Summer....
But a new company has a solution that is so easy it is almost criminal!
To lower the chances of wasps, hornets and yellow jackets spoiling outdoor celebrations and activities this summer, pest control experts recommend early action tin the Spring, to catch the queens before they can start building their brood. "In early spring, the queen paper wasps, hornets and yellowjackets emerge from overwintering to look for new nest sites,” explains Rod Schneidmiller, president of Sterling International, a developer of environmentally friendly Rescue pest control products. “The best time to capture the queen is before they begin constructing nests. For the states east of the Rocky Mountains, the time to strike is St. Patrick’s Day, in mid-March.”
Each queen caught prevents one nest of potentially hundreds or more dangerous The RESCUE! W·H·Y Trap for Wasps, Hornets & Yellow jackets from Sterling International is ideally suited to entice and trap these queens and their offspring. Even now you can put it out and make use of it, to keep the pesky insects away from your kids!
What lures the wasps, hornets and yellow jackets is a specially formulated attractant. “Using a three-pronged approach of attraction—two liquid forms and one gel—the RESCUE! W·H·Y Trap lures only wasps, hornets and yellow jackets, but will NOT lure in beneficial pollinators such as honeybees” says Dr. Qing-He Zhang, Sterling International’s lead scientist and director of research. With the nation’s honeybee populations at risk due to a multitude of man-made factors, knowing that the RESCUE! W·H·Y Trap keeps them safe is pretty important!
The double-chambered trap is a one-two punch in the capture and control of five species of paper wasps, bald-faced hornets and European hornets along with twelve species of yellow jackets. And once the insects are in the trap, they’re in for good. The non-toxic mode of action means they die by drowning or dehydration (ok, so ugh, but hey better that than them stinging the kids, right???).
To do the best at capturing both the queen and her workers (the trap catches the workers from summer through fall), place the trap at least 20 feet beyond areas that experience high outdoor activity, such as a patio, picnic spot, or a child’s play set. This ensures the insects will be lured away from human activity. A pretty good rule of thumb is you ask me! The general rule of thumb, Schneidmiller says, is to place the trap closer to a structure such as a house or shed for areas troubled with paper wasps, and closer to a garden or tree line for areas troubled with hornets and yellow jackets. Multiple traps positioned around the perimeter of a yard or open space will go a long way in controlling these pests, making the great outdoors much more pleasant (it is recommended to use 2-4 traps for a 10,000 square foot area, or 8 to 16 traps per acre. For areas with heavy infestation, use a maximum of 48 traps per acre- ugh I don't even want tot THINK about what THAT tern HEAVY means.....! LOL)
This is what we did! It was SO SO SO easy to assemble the trap in less than 5 minutes! All you need is about a cup of water to fill the top chamber with! Once we got it together, it was just a matter of getting the ladder and hanging it up. We put it near the screen door leading onto the porch, as there is where we have a big issue of all of the aforementioned suspects trying to get inside (hey, it's the hot humid South, I guess they want the ac too!). During our Father's Day party we noticed we only trapped one bugger (did you know Yellow Jackets are attracted to sweet liquids and meats, which is why they 'bug' us at bbqs?), BUT we didn't have any around any of us, the pool or the porch. Hmmmmm....
That success rate has continued! We haven't had to kill ANY of them on the porch since we installed the RESCUE trap! I am thoroughly amazed! Course Miss Grace is a little put out, she wanted to catch ALL of them in the area!
The RESCUE! W·H·Y Trap is durable enough to last multiple seasons and works for weeks with little to no maintenance. The trap is sold with a two-week attractant kit, and can be easily rebaited with attractant refills throughout the summer and fall for continued wasp, hornet and yellow jacket control. No additional food or materials are needed! And for budding insectologists, the back of the container has an excellent chart showing all the different markings of the wasps, hornets and yellow jackets it attracts!
