Ya'll KNOW we love Louisiana authors and books about Louisiana- how about a CSI type series based in NOLA? Yeah you know we had to share it with ya!

Andy Broussard, the “Plump and Proud” New Orleans medical examiner, obviously loves food.  Less apparent to the casual observer is his hatred of murderers. Together with his gorgeous sidekick, psychologist Kit Franklyn, Broussard forms a powerful, although improbable, mystery solving duo.

SynopsisWhen Kit goes to meet an anonymous stranger—who’s been sending her roses—the man drops dead at her feet before she could even get his name. Game on.

Andy Broussard soon learns that the man carried a lethal pathogen similar to the deadly “Ebola”—a highly contagious virus, feared worldwide for killing its victims (grotesquely) in a matter of days. When another body turns up with the same bug, widespread panic becomes imminent. The danger is even more acute, because the carrier is mobile. The man knows he’s a walking weapon and… he’s targeting Broussard.

And when Kit Franklyn investigates her mystery suitor further, she runs afoul of a cold- blooded killer, every bit as deadly as the man searching for her partner.

Review: I breezed through this novel in one sitting! Donaldson proves he embraced more of the NOLA mysteries and lore during his time spent down here than he thinks, in his writing!  This book is so action-packed that you just can not stop turning the pages and wondering where the tale will take you next an whether Andy and Kit will solve the mystery (kudos to the author for describing the source of the virus as 'the Killer' and devoting sections from 'its' viewpoint. Ironically hilarious is the best description of those passages!

I DO have to worn you that Donaldson first-hand knowledge of forensics is VERY in your face and the autopsy scenes are VERY GRAPHIC (ie I wouldn't be eating while reading this book if you have a queasy stomach at all...). In some ways they fit the book, as far as setting up the scene's drama, but in other's they might just be the proverbial 'overkill'...but if you have to skim those, you will get enough to carry on with the book.

I love this book for the NOLA flavor, mystery and oddities that Donaldson brought to it, and I will definitely be picking up the rest of the series to read! Check it out and you will want to too!
