Enroute back to Jackson, from the Petrified Forest in Flora, MS, on vacation last week, we stopped off at the Chapel of the Cross in Madison, MS. It is one of the oldest churches in the state, and dates back to 1848. just prior to the Civil War. We had time to kill before a lunch date, and I wanted to try to get some great shots.
Tell me what you think!
The original cemetary sits behind the church, under a 100 year old plus Magnolia tree.
Surrounded by iron fences, it is pure Southern Gothic.

More of the original cenetary:
This gate just struck my fancy with it's maker plaque:
One of the older set of headstones, I was impressed with how well they have aged.
The rear cemetary- fence is not as fancy, but equally Southern and old!
