Synopsis: Annabel, a police analyst, is shocked when she discovers her neighbor’s decomposing body in the house next door. And she’s appalled to think that no one noticed her absence.
Back at work, she sets out on her own to investigate, and finds that such cases are frighteningly common in her hometown.
A hymn to all the lonely and compelling characters that haunt our lives, Human Remains is a deeply disturbing and powerful novel of suspense from Elizabeth Haynes, author of Into the Darkest Corner.
And here is what Elizabeth says about this book
Having written two books which were essentially about relationships, I wanted to explore what happens to us in the absence of them; so Human Remains is about people who are for various reasons living an isolated existence without social contact. Instead of two timelines, I have two narrators in this book, both of whom are also lonely for different reasons. Annabel is a police analyst who spots an increase in the number of people who have died in their own homes and remained undiscovered until they are in advanced decomposition. Colin, the other narrator, is a clever, socially awkward man who may or may not be the cause of this alarming statistic…

Review: I loved Dark Tide, so I couldn't wait for Elizabeth's latest book! This is NOT a book to read on a full stomach, or late at night! Due to it's nature, it starts out with a gruesome first chapter and stays a taunt thriller the whole way through as Elizabeth weaves the reader into the tale of how we no longer watch out for each other, and how the can play into the depravity of come criminal minds. The dual narrative between Annabel and Colin (the suspect) actually works very well, as it engages the reader and leaves you with the roller coaster feeling of the huge drop off coming, for when they finally meet. The ending finishes that ride and still leaves you wondering if you truly knew what Colin was thinking/up to! If you like thrillers, a la Stephen King and Peter STraub, this is your book!
