can't wait willow

Synopsis:
The first book in the Shine Bright Kids series:  Can't-Wait Willow!

Willow is so excited that the Over-the-Top Circus has finally come to town! The only problem is, that when left to her own devices, she can’t say “no” to some good things. On the way to the show, she is distracted by enticing treats and fun that she just can’t turn down. Willow arrives late and is sad to find that, not only has she has run out of time, but money, and she won’t be able to enjoy the pink cotton candy she’s been dreaming of. Willow is given valuable advice and a second chance and is ultimately taught the lesson that sometimes in life you have to say “no” to good things to end up with something great!

Review:
If your kids are like Willow, and mine is, anticipation and WAITING, are just NOT cohesive in their small brains! Their Pavlovian response triggers are way too short! So I was interested to see what Miss Grace would think about this book, and about how waiting can be the best thing in the world, whereas not waiting can be disasterous. I was not disappointed! She eagerly turned the pages and sang out the 'chorus' and was very sad indeed when Willow couldn't go to the circus. We then had a LONG discussion on the kindness of the ringmaster and how waiting for things, like presents at Christmas and your birthday, makes them that much better!  Lesson well learned! She loved looking for the star on every page and discussing WHY he was sad or happy!

This is a great teaching book, both for parents, and for younger Sunday school classes, and we highly recommend it, and can't wait for the next book (Must-Have Marvin) in the series, due out next year!

  1. My daughter (now 5) doesn't spend her money yet, doesn't really earn an allowance yet. But, she is finally learning some consequences like you'll burn your mouth if you don't wait or your balloon will float away if you can't keep a hold of it.

  4. My daughter is really impatient when it comes to money, she spends it on those trinket machines at the store. I would love for her to set her sights on something and save her money and wait....

  5. I love personalized children's books. I remember a fun book my parents gave my brother and I.  They were personalized with our own names but spelled backwards.  So my character was a giraffe named 'Kerred'.  I thought that was so cool.  My brother's book had a lion named 'Yeldarb'.  I still like to call him that every now and again...and he's 47.
