Welcome to our 'Blood Flow' theme day!

I know- that's weird, but as I was scheduling posts for this week, I looked at the post titles and realized we had a theme- 2 in one week! Woo Hoo! So here we are!

So here's our first post of the day!

Settled Blood cover

Synopsis:
When a young girl is found dead at the base of Hadrian’s Wall in Northern England, it’s not long before detective Kate Daniels realizes her death was no ordinary homicide. She was thrown from a great height and was probably alive when she hit the ground.

Then a local businessman reports his daughter missing. Her description fits the dead girl exactly. Has Daniels found the identity of her victim-or is a killer playing a sickening game?

As the murder investigation team delves deeper into the case, half-truths are told, secrets exposed, and while Daniels makes her way through a mountain of obstacles, time is running out for one terrified girl.

Review:
I have to admit, this book was a first for me- a British police procedural, where the main detective is gay! Shocker! This is actually book 2 if the 4 part series (number 4 coming out next month!), and how I missed this excellent series is beyond comprehension! This is a tight mystery thriller, where the failed relationship between Kate and her ex, really helps to let the reader know more about HOW Kate thinks and acts. But (and this is important), it is not a HUGE thing in the story- some of her co-workers know, but they aren't bullying her or making stupid wisecracks. In fact, I would say the relationship she has with her team is one of the best written ones, to real life, that I've read!

And the tale! I had to go back and read the last chapter twice, so my brain could rethink of possible clues I had missed in the story- in that regards, Mari is obviously influenced by Agatha Christie! I finished the book with a 'wow', and a nod to Mari for a job well done indeed! I will definitely be getting the other 3 books to read as well! You don't need to have read the previous book, Mari gives you enough background to keep the reader happy (but to also make them want to go read the prequel!).

If you are looking for a new voice in police procedurals, check out the Kate Daniels series!
