An old woman, a hoarder, is dying of emphysema in Great Barrington, Massachusetts. In cleaning out her house, her daughter, Liza Machett, discovers a fortune in hundred dollar bills hidden in the tall stacks of books and magazines that crowd every corner.
Tracing the money’s origins will take Liza on a journey that will end in Cochise County, where Sheriff Joanna Brady is embroiled in a personal mystery of her own. A man she considers a family friend is found dead at the bottom of a hole in a limestone cavern near Bisbee. And now there is the mystery of Liza and the money. Are the two disparate cases connected? It’s up to Joanna to find out.

Review:
(Dad grabbed this book when it came in so, this is his review!)

“Remains of Innocence” by J.A. Jance is truly an excellent mystery. Jance is beyond doubt one of the best mystery writers of our time. She has the ability to keep you in the pages of her works.

In this excellent story about her latest heroine Sheriff Johanna Brady we are taken form Massachusetts to Sheriff Brady’s hometown of Bisbee, Arizona. As you read this novel our author has put forth you will fell like you are right there with her and all the rest of these troubled characters. From a young woman being chased across the country in an effort to find her step brother so that she may figure why her step father left them so long ago and why she found a very large amount of money in her dead mother’s old home. Sheriff Brady is on the case of a murdered sixty year old man with learning disabilities. Who could have conceivably killed this nice man with the mind of a child?

Come along on this fabulous journey and meet all the other characters and see how their story adds to the complications of everyone around them. Jance has truly given us readers a great mystery for our reading pleasure. Job well done!
