Confessions of a Paris Potty Trainer cover

Synopsis:

Diapers, tantrums, and French bureaucracy - the crazy life of an American mom in Paris.

Former party girl Vicki trades wine bottles for baby bottles, as this sassy mommy of two navigates the beautiful, yet infuriating, city of Paris.
How does she steer a stroller around piles of dog poop? Or find time for French administration between breastfeeding and business meetings? And will she ever lose the baby weight with croissants staring at her from every street corner?
This hilarious memoir will have you laughing, crying, and wiping up drool right alongside Vicki as she and her ever-patient French husband raise two children in the City of Light.

Review:
If you can get through this book without laughing, snorting, or falling off your chair, you are better than I. I think I laughed my way through the ENTIRE book! My other thought was, I have an alter-ego and her name is Vicki Lesage! I swear she thought/answered things the way I would have/do. SCARY!
But at it's heart, this is a story about adjusting to not only being married in a foreign country, but adapting to being pregnant and a mother, in a foreign land, where the rules and paperwork can literally drive you insane, yet the benefits (16 weeks maternity leave!) offer a seemingly better way of life. Vicki gives her readers an honest look at living in Paris as a normal sized American, trying to fit into the chic Parisian lifestyle. I was ahead of her on buying French baby clothes, as we had bought many for Miss Grace, as she was very petite as a baby, and I quickly learned the odd way of sizing (6 months means 3-6 months), and when I had to order larger sizes. But like Vicki, I found the quality and styles to be amazing! Her tale of getting a baby passport photo done was the definition of hilarious! I turned the last page and screamed "NOOOOOO!". Vicki needs to hurry up with another book about toddlerhood and elementary days (for now I'm off to read ALL her blog posts from when the book ended, sigh)!
If you are looking for a really great book about living abroad, that you will want to share with ALL your friends as soon as you finish reading it, this is the book for you! I have not read Vicki's first book, but I will definitely be picking it up!

  1. I'm so glad you enjoyed my book! And I'm glad someone else knows what I mean about those baby clothes. My 4-month-old baby wears size 1 year in French clothes. Granted, she's a hefty chunk but still! She's gonna get a complex if I tell her what size she's actually wearing :)
