Subtitled: Searching for Glory in the Everyday Grime,
this is a book that reminds us to stop and slow down
in the busy back to school season!

Synopsis:

“It makes no difference if you’ve made it to the top of the corporate ladder or if you’re one of those folks down at the grocery store who scrubs the commode. Because there is this one thing we all have in common, and it is this: we’re all painfully broken—every last one of us.”

Paulus, a photographer, writer, and blogger, desires that women understand that
every day is filled with meaning and purpose, whether running after a toddler, washing
a seemingly endless pile of dishes, or jetting overseas for a high-powered business
meeting. The day matters because God is there, real, and living out His role as the
great I AM, and we can see His glory and experience His grace.

“There is a God, a great Author who always ever was, who is weaving His story into our days,” says Paulus. “And
if, by chance, life has turned you a bit cynical or jaded to any notion of a Maker, my hope is that your eyes would
wake up wide to see His glory and your heart would beat wild with the whooshing, pulsing wonder of His grace.”

In Finding God at the Kitchen Sink, Paulus shares reflections from her life and daily walk with God, each one
written to encourage other women to see God as being present and at work in their lives. Interwoven amongst the
stories and Scriptures are pictures, taken by Paulus. She touches on numerous topics, including being adopted  f
rom foster care after her birth parents can no longer care for her and her brother, how being a momma has
changed her, the extravagant love of God, and the purpose of a family. An Example of her reflections:

And at the kitchen sink, as I scrubbed yesterday’s grime, I heard it. No kidding—I heard it loud and clear.
Sometimes the voice of Jesus can come in the form of your little boy whizzing by on his tricycle, shouting
boisterously to his playmates, “Hey! If you get stuck, I’ll help ya! And if you get hurt, I’ll help ya! Okay?”

Review:

This is a joyous book about the everyday wonders we sometimes fail to see as such, and about the moments that take our breath away. Seeing the world through a child's eyes, can teach you to see it anew and Maggie does a lovely job in reminding us to pause and SEE what is presented to us by our maker.

I certainly never knew how much I’d cry. All these happy tears. And how God would use a child’s faith and purity to encourage me. How He’d show me anew, through such little people’s eyes, how to view the world with all this wonder. Observing a caterpillar on a leaf. Stirring mud with a stick. Throwing rocks in a pond. Running for the sheer fun of it. (from How Being a Momma Has Changed Me, p. 45)

Our kids teach us to wonder anew, to see the happiness presented to us, in being able to handle everyday chores like washing dishes-having a home, children who are healthy, etc. Having time to handle these chores is a blessing in itself. This book would be a lovely book for a women's bible study group to use as a secondary reading source. It would also be a lovely baby shower present, to remind new moms to see life anew, at the chance they have been given.
