I know, you just went "Huh?" how is a boat belonging to Jesus in the history corner?

Because there is a WHOLE lot of history included in this DVD, and most of it NOT only from the bible, but documented in other historical tomes

"AHA, the light dawns!"

The astounding prophetic rebirth of Israel is told through the discovery of an ancient and unlikely artifact found under the shores of the Sea of Galilee. A first century fishing boat, identical to the boat Jesus sailed upon with his disciples, was destroyed in the years Israel was destroyed by the Romans, but found 2000 years later in a series of astonishing events that even scientists called a miracle. Mirroring Israel's own story of devastation and survival, the boat from the time of Jesus, would rise against all odds and float upon the Sea of Galilee once more as the oldest surviving freshwater boat in the world. Featuring commentary from some of the great theologians of our day including Franklin Graham, Joel Rosenberg, Jay Sekulow, Skip Heitzig, Chuck Smith and more

Check out the trailer, then I'll share my review:

Review:

WOW- I remember hearing about a 1st century boat being recovered, but it seemed to fade from the news that I had forgotten all about it, until I watched this video! The producers really give you a great early history lesson, sharing about the Galilee area, and how it related to bible stories, before talking about the discovery of the boat itself, and why it was SO important.

Some things you may not have been aware of- when the Temple of Jerusalem was destroyed, it's walls and roofs were of sheets of gold. The Romans took the melted gold (from the fire), and took it back to Rome, using it to build the Colliseum. They have even found a plaque noting where the gold came from, to verify the account!  Who knew? Or how the Sea of Galilee as we think of as a SEA, is really only 13 miles long and 8 miles wide. really more of a small lake. You can literally see from one side to another. So when the Romans attacked at the last battle of the Bar Kokhba revolt, a naval battle on the Sea, and 1600 men were lost, one can truly see how the entire Sea ran red from blood, and how it ended the revolt.

So when a fisherman found the Jesus Boat after 4 years of drought and then the first archaeologist touched it and a rain storm of horrendous magnitude appeared out of nowhere, you can understand how the boat seemed like a miracle. The film shares all the amazing ways in which God reached out and helped the crew, and everyone who joined in, to uncover and remove the boat. I found it very ironic that the fisherman that found the boat was the only one who knew of a way to solve the issue of worms eating away at the boat, once it was moved.  It is these little things that the documentary shares and finds the prophecies from the bible to match to that will truly amaze the viewer! The boat in fact is the oldest fresh water  ever found, and is identical to the type fishing boat Jesus used (shown below). And while it might not be a boat used by Jesus, all the amazing coincidences surrounding it (like the fact that it is made from 12 different types of wood), might lead you to believe that it could have in fact been touched by him!

Watching the movie with Miss Grace I was quite impressed with how many bible stories she realized tied into what they movie was talking about. Seeing her eyes light up, as new info was added to her understanding of the bible was pretty wonderful to me as a parent. In fact, I would HIGHLY recommend watching this movie with your children, and a bible, in order to show them the sections talked about in the movie, and how it relates to what is being told in the bible. It would also be great for church bible study programs, including those for teens!

It is a very worthwhile movie, and I urge everyone to see it this holiday season, as it reminds us that God is always with us, and that is we listen, we will know the truth!

See it in Person:

The Jesus Boat is on display in Galilee at the Yigal Allon Museum, along with a real life size sample of that it would have really loked like, as well as info on the woods used in the boat.
