Race to Death cover

Synopsis:

When a man plummets to his death from a balcony at York races, his wife and brother become suspects in a murder enquiry. Meanwhile Richard is being stalked by a killer issuing death threats. Richard is reluctant to go to the police, for fear his own dark secret will be exposed. Newly promoted Detective Inspector Ian Peterson is investigating the death at the races when a woman's body is discovered. Shortly after that, Richard is killed. With three murders and no suspect, the investigation seems to be going backwards. Ian is determined to discover who is responsible.

Review
2nd book featuring DI Ian Peterson on his own (although his former DIS Geraldine Steel pops in for a bit) and picks up where Cold Sacrifice left over. Peterson and his wife Bev have moved to York, for him to accept his new promotional post. He's originally from the Northern area and starts to fit back in, his wife doesn't. As Peterson gets bogged down with 3 murders that seem unrelated, his wife gets a new job and peace comes back to their household. But the peace is son short lived. Russell gives us another wonderful mystery within a mystery, and the reader will be guessing who the suspect is through out the book. When all the puzzle pieces fall together, you get a thrilling roller coaster conclusion and one that will leave you wanting the next book in this side series! If you haven't read the previous book, Russell gives you enough background to know what is going on, but I do recommend reading both Peterson based books together!
