Just Add Water and Change a Life on World Water Day This Weekend! (giveaway)

Disclosure / Disclaimer: I received these products, free of charge, from World Vision, for review and giveaway, purposes on this blog. No other compensation, monetary or in kind, has been received or implied for this post. Nor was I told how to post about it

Here is Louisiana, we're about sick of all the March rains! They made for a cold and wet Mardi Gras season, and some miserable folks when you don't see sunshine for a week!

Our state has ready access to clean water, which is essential for healthy living, yet 748 million people lack access to clean water around the world– the equivalent of nearly two and a half times the United States population. As a devastating effect, one child under the age of 5 dies every minute from diarrhea, caused by contaminated water and unsafe hygiene. That is a sobering fact, isn't it? It reminds us how lucky we truly are!

Take a look at World Vision’s clean water video for an inside look at the impact of the water crisis in one girl’s life:

If it brought a tear to your eye, then yeah, it reached you and your understanding of how lucky and blessed we all are every DAY! World Vision knows this and seeks to make some of those same benefits available around the world. The United Nations General Assembly declared  this Sunday, March 22nd to be World Water Day, to address this crisis and to acknowledge water’s essential presence on the earth

This year, we are joining with World Vision to help spread awareness for people around the globe who need safe water. Last year, these type of World Water Day posts reached up to 700 million people. This grass roots advocacy can help thousands more get clean water access each year, with YOUR help and donations!

If you can't help financially yourself, how about helping by spreading the word, and helping others like you, understand the need for clean water! It's a great project for kids to learn to help others! Some ideas about how you can rethink your water usage:
- take a short shower- when you take a 5 minute shower, you have already used more water than an entire's worth of water for the average person in a developing country
-skip the daily coffee or meal out. instead use that money to provide water to a family in developing countries
-raise money in Sunday School class, with a Lemonade stand, at a Saturday bake sale, do what you can to share with those in need!

And to help you remember all year long how important this water project is, we're glad to share two special items for a giveaway for one lucky BTHM reader:

World  Water Day Umbrella; – Created specifically for this Water Day campaign, this blue and white umbrella serves as a practical reminder that rainwater is considered a precious resource for people that lack established water systems.

As you can see Miss Grace had fun testing it out for me, so you could see what a handy size it is. I love how it folds up so small, so it can be carried in a briefcase or purse, yet gives you great coverage! It's perfect for keeping in the front seat of your car, for sudden downpours!

Royal Silk Scarf – From the World Vision Gift Catalog, this scarf is made with luxurious silk using Fair-Trade practices. The blend of soft colors emulates the purifying qualities of water and the vibrant life that it sustains.  I can not tell you just how VIBRANT this scarf is! I will be using it for the annual Easter stroll and Easter Sunday! It truly showcases the amazing colors of the earth's waters! It is so soft you will not want to take it off! It would make a GREAT Mother's Day present if you won!
