May is Military Month, and we'll be sharing some very special military posts in the next 2 weeks!
For me, with a Dad who is a career military van, and Vietnam Veteran, Memorial Day has true meaning, so I was thrilled to be able to check out this latest book in the Berenstain Bears series!
Synopsis:
The Bear family and their Bear Country neighbors celebrate the Fourth of July with a big parade. But not before the Bear cubs get a lesson about the blessings of freedom for their country. Features 12 full-color stickers.
Review:
While the book is aimed at the 4th of July, I think it is a VERY timely book to get for Memorial Day and to share with your kids, so that the KNOW that Memorial Day is more than about BBQs, the end of school and start of Summer vacation, It is a reminder of WHAT our military are fighting for- how we enjoy freedoms that other countries do NOT.And for kids who say the Memorial Day and 4th of July parades are boring, the book reminds them of what they are meant to HONOR by the draping of red, white and blue all over.
The book also includes activities that kids can do, as well as questions parents can ask their kids, for some great family discussion time! We highly recommend the book as a way to educate younger kids about our land and why our military protects it so!
About the Author:
Mike Berenstain grew up watching his parents, Stan and Jan, working together to write and draw these lovable bears. Eventually he started drawing and writing about them too.
