Synopsis:

This film stars Lucy Morton, as Mickey Miller, a thoroughly modern 12-year-old American girl whose great love is horses. Not surprisingly, she has little enthusiasm for her mother’s plan to take Mickey and her little brother to start a new life in a run-down mill she has inherited in Longwood, a windswept Irish town at the end of the world. Mickey’s presence in Longwood coincides with the return of the Black Knight, a legendary ruler who found no peace after his baby daughter was taken from him, and whose appearances always mean that something evil is going to happen to the villagers. Mickey hears and sees things that others can’t, and forms an immediate bond with Silver, the proudest, haughtiest, most untamable horse in the stalls of a nearby castle. Realizing that she is directly linked to the story of the Black Knight, Mickey and her new friend Sean set out to redeem the knight so as to bring lasting peace to Longwood. But first she must save the lives of seven horses and thwart the evil plans of a greedy, ambitious woman – a mighty handful even for the bravest girl!

Review:
While the film is recommended for ages 12 and up, I think 8 and up is fine if you watch it with your child, as you might need to explain a few things- the beauty of the PAUSE button! Miss Grace couldn't WAIT to watch the film and I was rather impressed at how well she kept up with the storyline. Course being Irish, about horses and a girl, pretty much meant she was gonna love it no matter what, LOL. And of course when you spot an actor from the Harry Potter series, as one of the main characters, it is rather like a secret extra! But I have to admit as an adult I was glued to the story as well, waiting to see where it would play out and if there was something else going to happen. It's a great story for tweens/teens as it shows dedication, love, trust, family and that right will win out in the end. All in all a great movie for mom and daughters to watch and it just might inspire some Summer learning about Irish legends, fairy circles, and maybe horses. You gotta love a film that inspires learning! We give it our highest movie score and recommend it for the Summer I'm Bored's and Summer sleepovers!

And in case you were wondering, it IS Dove approved for kids over age 12, as it is obviously a fantasy film and not based on true actual events.
