And speaking of walking....
Do you ever walk at night? With your family?
Planning a vacation that will require you to be walking at night?
A simple solution is literally at hand!
The app was designed by a Former Fire Chief and a Former Public Works Supervisor, who experienced first hand the results of drivers treating people on foot as if they were not there."About every eight minutes, a person gets hit by a car in the US,” said Dan Voreyer, former Fire Chief for the City of San Bruno, CA, and PedSafe co-founder. "We knew we could help,” said Larr Smurthwaite, former Public Works Supervisor for the City of San Bruno, CA, and PedSafe co-founder. "Maybe not save everybody, but certainly provide a way to make pedestrians more visible. "We took the idea behind crosswalk safety lights and put into everyone's hands, in a smartphone app." says Dan.
Check out how well it works:
The PedSafe app downloads super quickly and is easy to turn on/off, with one touch of the screen. No matter what language you speak, the app is self explanatory and easy to use- which also means kids can use it as well as seniors! And you can use it world wide, so it can always go wherever your cell phone goes, and it's a lot safer and easier to carry than a bulky flashlight!
