Have you had a chance to watch the new show Space Racers with your kids?

SPACE RACERS is an original animated TV series that provides young children with exposure to key aspects of the science, technology, engineering and mathematics, or STEM

Produced in collaboration with NASA experts, the series follows a group of talented young spaceship cadets at the Stardust Bay Space Academy. Kids will travel with speedy Eagle, strong Hawk, smart Robyn, brave Starling and competitive Raven as they soar through the Solar System learning about the power of scientific investigation and observation, the wonders of space exploration and the importance of working as a team.

I love how space education and science theories are included in a fun, harmonic way, so that kids don't even realize how much STEM learning they are getting! Even though Miss Grace is not a frequent watcher (she's declared it a little too 'young' for her current tastes), she likes clicking into the show, because as she says "I always learn fun stuff that I can go look up more info on"/ Did I mention my kid loves 'resource books'? I have to smile, as I was the kid that would go look stuff up in the Encyclopedia, and then end up reading for 50 more pages! LOL  I would say the show is really aimed solidly at K-2nd grade, but younger and older kids get enjoyment and learning from it.

Space Racers airs on public television stations across the country and streaming on Netflix.   The show also airs in over 50 countries around the world.

But their aim to educate kids doesn't stop with the show!

Space Racers now has an excellent Parents & Educator’s Toolkit!

Developed in cooperation with WNET Education, the toolkit is ideal for kids in grades Pre-K through 3rd grade. It takes the lessons learned in the episodes and provides engaging lesson plans for teachers and parents to use, to help their kids further explore the STEM themes in each episode! With fun activities like

your kids will not only explore constellations, planets and the moon, they'll have fun!

The Educator Toolkit includes:
-  a DVD with 13 Space Racer animated episodes (that alone is worth the cost of the kit!)
-  4 live-action segment like How a Crater is Formed
- CD-ROM filled with corresponding STEM Lesson Plans and Family Activities, like making a Moon Flipbook and Charting its Phases
- Printables to download like the one below

Miss Grace LOVED the STEM Lesson Plans! Plans include fun lessons like Bounciest Ball, Roll,Pitch & Yaw, Marble Racers and Sensory Detective. As you can see from the first part of the Bounciest Ball Experiment lesson plan (shown below), their are learning goals and related goals that are the keystone to each lesson plan. The lesson plans teach the kids a LOT. For example, the Bouncing Ball plan teaches kits how to conduct an experiment, from theory, to setting it up, to documentation, to proving/disproving their theories. learning Scientific Method is something that kids will learn to apply in all areas of their life, so it's great for them to learn it at this early phase.

The lessons plans also allow for some really great parent/child time, and once you finish, you may find the need to take a trip to your local planetarium, to help lessons sink in more! Plus, for Miss Grace, some of the included lessons are not taught til the second half of 3rd grade in her school science class, so she'll be ahead, having already learned the topics!  Teachers will love how the videos and plans all tie so well together, and help with their mult-media approach, to really help today's kids grasp the STEM ideas and theories, and LEARN them, not just quote memorized info for tests.  This Educator Kit is perfect for parent and teachers alike and we can't recommend it enough!

Want to Purchase the Educator Kit for your child's teacher?
It would make a GREAT Christmas gift idea!

You can purchase the kit online at the  Space Racers online storefront

Want to continue the fun learning no matter where you are?

Space Racers has their own app now too!

Their Game App  will let youchildren will explore the concept of cause and effect, as they pilot spaceships through a progressively challenging – and engaging – obstacle course. To overcome challenges, children will need to consider variables such as the effects of wind on speed and magnets on metal objects (aha STEM learning!).  As they move through game rounds, children will experiment and make choices based on knowledge gained in previous levels as well. Now that's a game you'll love as much as they do!

Check it out- it's available on iTunesGoogle Play and Amazon!
