I'm Happy for You (Sort Of..Not Really) cover

Thoughts from Kay...
Tired of performing? Feeling weighed down by the pressure to be Pinteresting? Does your friend’s wardrobe, body, marriage, paycheck, vacation plans, or photoshoot-worthy home décor leave you wishing your life looked more like that?

You’re not alone.

With its focus on smarter, faster, thinner, and ever-better, our cultural obsession with comparison is undercutting relationships and sapping contentment. Our friends become our audience (or judges), and our titles, activities, even kids become part of our brand. Factor in social media’s constant reminder of what everyone else is doing, and no wonder we feel drained, discontent, and isolated.
Thankfully, we don’t have to live this way!

Synopsis:
Our cultural obsession with comparison is undercutting relationships and sapping contentment. With disarming candor and humor, Kay Wills Wyma explores how to trade comparison for compassion and rediscover what life is all about.

It’s easy to get caught in the comparison games we play with our appearances, our kids, and our homes. Kay reminds exhausted families about tried and true remedies from the pressures of competitive living.

In her warm, relatable style, Kay confronts the comparison epidemic raging in our homes, our neighborhoods, and our social-media feeds, offering remedies along the way.
With candor and humor, Im Happy For You (Sort Of…Not Really) explores the troubling effects of living in an excessively competitive culture—and reveals simple yet effective ways to escape the comparison trap.

Review:

This is a great book to help you step back and re-evaluate why you push and feel you have to keep up, or do better than your friends, workmates and family members. Kay does a great job in breaking down the 'ers'- better, bigger, prettier, fancier, etc- and showing that they are never what they seem. We pay a hefty price for that achievement- frequently it is doing without- be it things we love, time spent together as a family, or even just enjoy calm and quiet. This isn't what God expects of us, so why do we let society push us?

And why are we leading our kids down that road? Sometimes pulling back is the key. Instead of one activity, our kids can do one. Bring back family dinners and weekend outings. Find the sanity in the peace and calm, that we all need to recharge and hear God's voice. When we stop trying to achieve the 'ers' we find who WE are, both individually, as a couple and as a family. This is why when we disconnect from media (cells, TV, tablets, etc), we reconnect with each other. When we stop being caught up in keeping up, we are naturally happier and more living to each other.

This is a GREAT book to read as a family- to talk over the different ideas present, especially at this time of year, and scale BACK the holiday events, traditions, and the like. Pick what is most important, forgo the rest and concentrate on what fulfills you. You might find that the whole holiday season suddenly is a lot less stressful! We can't recommend this book enough, it's a must read before your kids hit the pre-teen years!

That’s actually the timeliness of this opportunity. Join Kay and her family as she’s started to #HydrateForTheHolidays on her blog posts to learn how to recapture contentment and joy, especially in Nov. & Dec.!!  She’ll be sharing thoughts throughout the season!
