As you know, World Vision is a charity that our family whole heartedly supports, not only during the holiday season, but year round.

I hope that you included them in your #GivingTuesday moments yesterday and that you keep them in mind for all your gift giving needs, as we will. In fact World Vision has been the primary holiday charity for BTHM, since it's inception! I actually feel very happy to hear from friends, "I gave goats this year thanks to your post!" or "My family provided education for girls this year, instead of buying stocking stuffers for everyone in the family". And in the 5 years BTHM has been sharing about World Vision with you, a difference HAS been made:

Since it began in 1996, the World Vision Gift Catalog has grown in popularity as a gift-giving alternative; featuring over 100 ways to improve the lives of children through gifts such as: clean water, food, medicine, education, job training and small business loans, among others, in over 100 countries around the world. And importantly, 85% of donations go exactly to where they say they do. There is no giving $10 and having only pennies go to those in need. World Vision only takes what it needs to get the funds where they are needed, and to advertise the needs that are there. And that is something to be VERY proud of. Trust me, you might be VERY surprised how little of your donations goes where it should with popular charities!

And I know some of you say, I understand the need, but I want to help here at home. Well World Vision does that too! Did you know that 22% of American children live in poverty? World Vision allows you to donate to their fund to help these children with food, clothing, personal hygiene supplies, school supplies and educational opportunities too!

We've been thrilled to partner with World Vision every year, and to bring you such wonderful ways to give to friends and family, in meaningful ways that truly make a DIFFERENCE to those in need! Their gifts range in price from $16 to $39,000 and can be made in a loved one’s name. You even get a personalized card sharing about the gift, to give to the recipient! Last year alone more than 822,000 people were helped through the Catalog. And where else can you say you gave a set of Nativity Animals to help sustain a family for a year? That means so much more than giving another box of holiday candy, doesn't it?

World Vision also has classic handcrafted gift ideas from around the world that make unique gifts for giving. Plus the gifts give back- the money from the items help where it is most needed in that community, by addressing specific, urgent needs, that might otherwise go unmet for a child, family, or community.

An example is their lovely Drops of Turquoise Jewelry Set. The set is made by artisans in Delhi, who are now able to support their family thanks to fair trade wages.

The set includes this gorgeous 22 inch drop necklace, made of lovely turquoise drops, carved silver beads, turquoise beads, glass beads and carved silver drops.

The matching earrings look heavy, but aren't!

They are perfectly balanced to give a dramatic look, but without heavy pulling on your ears.

And as you can see, the matching bracelet is charming on it's own, or with the set!

So make a DIFFERENCE this year, and remember the true meaning of Christmas- giving to others in ways to sustain them, not to just provide a momentary indulgence. Give a gift that matters and saves lives. Just as Jesus was sent to save ours, be part of World Vision's campaign against world poverty!
