Fourth in the Dunbridge Chronicles series, Neil Fisher's old and new congregations come together on a cruise round the British Isles

saints and sinners cover

Synopsis:

Three groups of people come together for a more-or-less godly cruise around the British Isles to visit Lindisfarne, the Loch Ness Monster Museum, the isles of Iona and Mull, Dublin, and the Scilly Isles. There are familiar faces from St Stephens, Dunbridge; some new folk from Neil’s new parish in Derbyshire; and the slightly long-suffering crew, not least its skipper.

A cruise is a great place to make new friends, with leisure for decent conversations. It can also be an awkward, confined space with those you would really rather avoid. Some of the party face tough decisions--not least of which is whether to say "yes"--and some tensions just cannot be left on land.

Review:

If you belong to an organized church, then you KNOW how church members can be. If it's a well established Church of England crew, then you know characters are hardly the name, LOL. This book, which is the first in the series that I've read, takes on all those colorful people and mashes them all on a cruise together and the results are not quite what anyone would expect. It's a fun book, that will have you laughing and smiling, and leaving the last page with a smile at how things worked out for those facing some rough decisions. Books 1-3 are not required reading either, as the author gives you enough background on the characters and situations, so you aren't lost. If you're looking for something for a light Spring read, this book fits the bill! And the cruise will leave you longing for a visit across the pond, so be warned!
