Review:

This book takes a bit different stance than other essential oil books, in that it takes you through the history of the usage of oils (to show how we have gotten AWAY from using them), through all the steps of how oils are made, how they are processed (did you know it takes 250 POUNDS of Rosemary leaves to make 1 cup (8oz) of essential oil?) and then how to use them. BUT she also includes how to incorporate them into a healthy lifestyle, that includes yoga, reducing stress, and eating healthy.

I quite agreed with Hope's theory of the 5 essential oils you should start with: Lavender, Lemon, Peppermint, Tea Tree and Cedarwood. They are pretty much the Super 5, and can be used together, or in combinations, for an amazing amount of uses! Personally I don't use Cedarwood yet, but alternate between Myrh and Vetiver. She also uses Jojoba Oil as her base for application, which makes sense as it is great for your skin and hair. I currently use coconut oil, but may try the jojoba on my next batch of rollerball applicator mixes, as it was not one I had thought to use! Her included chart with how much essential oil versus carrier oil, for different purposes, is also really helpful and I printed it out to put with my oils, so I won't forget! She also includes a great chart on how much oil to use, based on age of the recipient!

The book also features Hope's hand-drawn, two-color illustrations throughout, like above, showing you how and where to apply the oils. This is a huge help, for those who aren't sure about where to put them for maximum effect. I learned quite a few new tips from the book, like applying oils and then taking a hot bath or shower, to help them really sink into your skin, and to give you the ultimate inhalation method. This is really great for when you have sinus problems, or need to do away with daily stress!  Her combinations are some that I already use, but there were a few I had not heard of, like using Geranium oil for inflammation, that I really want to try!

This is really one of the best all around, EASY to use essential oil books I've read and if you are looking for a great Mother's Day present for someone who wants to start using essential oils, or is already using them, Add a sample pack of the basic oils listed above, and you have a great gift that keeps on giving! I can't recommend it enough!
