Review:

This is a GREAT book to get you on your way to making your own all natural, chemical-free, aromatic products, made from easy to get medicinal plants, flowers, fruits and essential oils. And not only are they better for you, they tend to be MUCH cheaper than traditional beauty products too! And that is great for your pocketbook! And they work SO SO much better! I've used different hair masks on Miss Grace and my hair and both of us have seen a reduction in split ends, and stronger hair! The book is also great for teaching kids about how we used natural products, before the chemicals came around, to clean and support our health! Most of the recipes are very simple, and kids can make them themselves. plus they can run a scientific experiment on them, and do a little STEM practice over the Summer too! The book tells yous what skin and hair type the products should be used on, and the tips really help, if you've never used the different ingredients before! This book has over 400 color photos, so you, and the kids, will know what the different beauty products should look like when you make them! If you are looking to make healthier changes to your beauty products, be sure to check out this book.

Wheat Germ Moisturizing Cream

Wheat Germ Moisturizing Cream

Wheat germ oil is full of antioxidant vitamin E and is terrific at delivering moisture to parched skin. Rose water and rose essence give this cream a pretty floral scent.

Best for: Dry skin

Tips: Choose 100% natural cocoa butter for homemade creams like this. You can buy chunks of this creamy, yellowish substance made from cocoa beans at cosmetic-supply stores and online. It is also sold in uniform-size wafers. Either form will work fine in this recipe.

Rose and neroli (orange blossom) essential oils are expensive, because it takes so many flowers to make just a single drop of oil. This recipe substitutes less-expensive rose or orange blossom essence to give the cream a divine scent, without the hefty price tag.

Note: Always measure accurately when you’re making homemade beauty products.

Ingredients:

2 tbsp rose water 30 mL
1 tbsp grated raw beeswax 15 mL
1 tbsp cocoa butter 15 mL
1 tbsp shea butter 15 mL
3 tbsp wheat germ oil 45 mL
3 drops rose essence or orange blossom essence

Directions:
1. In a small saucepan, warm rose water over low heat (do not boil). Keep warm.
2. In a small heatproof bowl, combine beeswax, cocoa butter and shea butter. Set aside.
3. Pour enough water into another small saucepan to come about 2 inches (5 cm) up the side; bring to a simmer.
4. Set bowl on saucepan so that bottom of bowl is not touching simmering water; stir until beeswax mixture is melted and smooth. Remove bowl from heat.
5. Stir rose water and wheat germ oil into beeswax mixture. Using a wooden spoon, beat for 1 to 2 minutes or until lukewarm. Stir in rose essence. Let cool completely.
6. Smooth cream gently over face.
