Synopsis:

From the #1 international bestseller and Swedish crime sensation, Camilla Lackberg’s latest psychological thriller ensnares Detective Patrik Hedstrom in a confounding new murder case.

Detective Patrik Hedstrom is no stranger to tragedy. A murder case concerning Fjällbacka’s dead financial director, Mats Sverin, is a grim but useful distraction from his recent family misfortunes.
It seems Sverin was a man who everybody liked yet nobody really knew — a man with something to hide . . . His high school sweetheart, Nathalie, has just returned to Fjallbacka with her five-year-old son — perhaps can she shed some light on who Sverin really was? However, Nathalie has her own secret. If it’s discovered, she will lose her only child. As the investigation stalls, the police have many questions. But there is only one that matters: Is there anything a mother would not do to protect her child?

Review:

This series picks up after the events in The Drowning. Patrik is coming back from leave, and his team has a new cohesiveness, allowing them to seize on the mysterious case and chase every lead, making some missteps along the way. How they ultimately connect all the pieces is an interesting web of lies and deceit. This Swedish crime novel series is unique, being set in a small town, with the community lending help with the cases. The police team are interesting characters, and their dynamic is not the nor for police procedurals, making for a better reading experience! This book is a great addition to the series, and I cant wait to check out the next translated book(The Angel Maker’s Wife)!

If you are looking for a great series to delve into this Fall, be sure to check out this one!
