Sometimes it's hard to believe that the artists you sang along with in high school, are STILL having a great singing career and still making great albums (sorry, it just sounds better than CD, which sounds more like it was made in Mom's garage...). Yet when it comes to today's artist, it should make sense, as she wasn't that much older than us to begin with, as she started her career so young.

Many of Amy's Christian songs are still sung around my house, and 'Emmanuel" is still my all time fav song of hers, as it combined all her types of music, including Christmas! And her Christmas CD, Home for Christmas, is one of the 6 we always pull out at the holiday season for constant play in the house and car! Which makes sense, as Christmas music has become synonymous with Amy Grant over the years, which has led to over 2.7 million Christmas albums sold in her career. WOW. She  IS Christmas to a LOT of people! So when I was asked to review her newest Christmas album, I literally screamed with joy and did my happy dance!

This all new Christmas album of Amy's, is her first in nearly 20 years. Can you believe it has been THAT long in between Christmas albums? I can't either! Tennessee Christmas features an updated recording of the Amy Grant Christmas standard, Tennessee Christmas, 6 new songs and traditional Christmas favorites like Baby, It's Cold Outside (featuring hubs Vince Gill), O Come All Ye Faithful & Joy To The World. This brand new album showcases Amy's classic vocal with softer, more intimate and mellow arrangements, interspersed with personal stories and holiday memories. Which means it is an album for enjoying while putting up the Christmas tree, enjoying time with friends and family at home, for those wonderful winter mornings, sipping coffee on the porch while watching the wonderful snow falling (ok, so maybe you're sitting inside by the fire instead, LOL).

It is DIFFERENT from her previous Christmas albums, but then SO is Amy. She's older, mature, with grown kids and definitely at a point where she can relish memories from her childhood and her children's. And that is what this album is- MEMORIES shared. But the different producers got that and allowed that same voice to come through, no matter the arrangement. It is pure AMY, all the way- the one we wanted to be in high school, who we admired as young newlyweds, when she married long time friend Vince Gill and combined their families, with what seemed the most amazing way, and then to be able to keep doing what she loves best- singing! SIGH. Yup, we all still have tht 'girl crush' on her, you have to admit, she's who you still want to be! LOL

Now how about checking out one of the songs, befre I share the tracks with you.

Here's a sample of the songs from this great CD, To Be Together:

Album Tracks
1. Tennessee Christmas
2. To Be Together
3. Christmas for You and Me
4. Melancholy Christmas
5. December
6. White Christmas
7. Joy to the World
8. I've Got My Baby to Keep Me Warm
9. Baby It's Cold Outside
10. Christmas Don't Be Late
11. Still Can't Sleep
12. Another Merry Christmas
13. O Come, All Ye Faithful

All of the songs on this album are truly lovely. they showcase Amy's voice perfectly, are easy to sing along with and having Vince on Baby is a true charm! The true standout on this album, which will give you MUCH pause, is Melancholy Christmas, which came together, after Amy talked with fans on the road and discovered JUST how many people are NOT with friends and families over the holiday, but alone. So the song is a way of her to remind us to offer that hand, to set another place at the dinner table, and bring those without family during the season, into yours. It's such a simple act, that really CAN make a huge difference in that person's life. Growing up, we always had 'holiday orphans' as my mom used to call them, at the table- coworkers who couldn't go home for the holiday, who had no family to go home to, who knew no one in their new town. It always seemed to make the holiday brighter, knowing how much it meant to them to be there with us, sharing a traditional holiday. And then later, when i was the one across the country from my family, I truly understand first hand what that feeling was. It's truly amazing and one I hope you and your family can take to heart,
