If you're like me, it seems the more holiday stress there is,
the QUICKER your hair color fades!

ARGH!!!

Who has time to have to touch up roots every 5 minutes?

Right?

So when I heard about a NATURAL hair dye alternative that LASTS,
I knew I had to try it out!

Treasured Locks has a new breakthrough product Gray Away Enhanced Henna, that is not only NATURAL and safer for your hair, but is AIMED at those pesky grey and white hairs!

Treasured Locks Gray Away Enhanced Henna is a natural herbal based (henna) product that contains just a small amount of actual dye, just enough, to cover those stubborn gray hairs. Designed to dye gray hair and hair that is close to the color you are trying to achieve, Gray Away Enhanced Henna can is both safe and effective, because it contains no harsh chemicals like peroxides that lift color before dyeing. In fact, it is  Pesticide Free, Ammonia Free (yeah no harsh smell!), Peroxide Free and Cruelty Free!

Gray Away Enhanced Henna is NOT aimed at lightening your hair however. It is aimed at returning your hair to it's NATURAL color! Though it can also darken it.  Using their red on black hair will produce red highlights ONLY.  Because of the minimal amount of chemical dye, the product does not cause harm to the hair or scalp. That's means NO itching or burning! Perfect for the holiday season! In fact, repeated usage can actually enhance the condition of your hair leaving it more manageable and softer.

To start, head on over to the Treasured Locks website and select one of the 9 available colors, ranging from Golden Bronze to Black, as you can see above. While it might seem pricey at $11.99, I have shoulder length hair and only used HALF of the bag on my hair, so I'm getting TWO uses per bag, making on par, or cheaper, than the artificial dyes you traditionally get!

It is very simple to use! Just mix 3 parts boiling water, or coffee for dark colors (which I did), and 1-2 tablespoons of apple cider, together in a bowl, to form a paste- not too thick, but not too runny either. You want it to STICK to your hair. As I was only using half a bag, I added a little less than 3/4 of a cup of coffee and only 1 1/4 tablespoon of the apple cider vinegar. I have a small pop up style cereal bowl that I use for hair dye, and it fit in it perfectly.

Yes, the henna IS green, but it turns the color you selected, upon mixing!

treasured locks hair cap and dyed hair

This is DEFINITELY a project where you will want a professional cape, or an really old t-shirt, in case of dribbles! It is also highly recommended (and I agree) to use petroleum jelly or a thick coat of lotion, around your hair line to keep the dye off your face. Treasured Locks sent me one of their HydraCap Deep Hydrating Conditioning Caps, to use with the dye. I have to say it was an eye-opener! Being able to cover my dyed hair with a capt that fir itself to my hair with just a minute of blowing from the hair dryer, and that keep any leaks from coming down, and allowed me to move about without worry of getting dye on anything I brushed up against, was a revelation! Now I didn't get mine all the way down as it possible because my hair dryer is on the fritz and didn't blow hot enough, but I was ok with just having secure edges! You get 6 caps per pack, so at just under $1 per use, these caps are going on my must buy list!

I left the product on for a full 45 minutes, as directed, as I had about a 2 inch strip of white and grey roots (hence why there was no before photo! It is also recommend that you don't wash at least 24 hours beforehand)). I had purposely let them get that bad, as I knew this dye was coming! I then used color protectant shampoo, following their directions and rinsed and washed hair until it ran clear. I then followed with a 2 minute protectant conditioner, as the humidity (yes we're back to 8 degrees and 75% humidity again) had wrecked havoc on my hair). Again, having the smock on at this point is helpful if washing clear in a sink, or preferably do it in the shower (just clean your walls really well after).

treasured locks gray away henna vs artificial color

As you can see, the color is VERY close to my natural color! I was really shocked, and VERY pleased with how it turned out. it doesn't look like I colored my hair at all and that is always the goal of coloring.

As you can see, there is NO white! No grey showing through and I have complete coverage that looks NATURAL! I LOVE it!

If you've wanted to dye your hair at home, but were scared of the damage you might do to your hair and scalp because of the harsh chemicals and complicated instructions, THIS is the color to use!   Dyeing your hair at home can not only save you money, but time spent waiting to get an appointment. Plus you can color ANY time of the day, so you can fit it into YOUR schedule! You can bake, clean, fold clothes while your hair is setting, you can actually get twice the work done!

Treasured Locks Gray Away Enhanced Henna really is the answer to how to cover grey hair naturally and effectively!
