One to Ten, Squirrel's Bad Day cover
One to Ten, Squirrel's Bad Day
Illus by Marteya Arkova

One to Ten, Squirrel's Bad Day sample illustrationSquirrel is running along a tree limb when she trips, losing all her acorns into the rushing water of the river below. Angry and frustrated, she doesn't know what to do. Her good friend, Rabbit, lends both a sympathetic ear as well as a solution. Rather than get angry, Rabbit tells her, rate the problem on a scale of one-to-ten. By identifying and realizing the true importance of the issue, the issue may not seem so overwhelming. Adorable forest creatures help the sad squirrel put everything into perspective so he does not to get stuck in a rut over something that may not be a big deal after all.

This is an adorable book that introduces a new line for Carole- taking on childhood problems! All kids know about frustration and about how BAD days can seem. But this adorable book not only teaches counting skills (love multi-purpose books!), it teaches a strong moral lesson about putting the problem in perspective, and then how to cope with the problem. It's fun to read out loud, or for emergent readers to read! And the fun Spring colored illustrations will make everyone smile!

But sometimes you don't feel like smiling, cause you really are having a rotten day!

If You were Me and Lived in Israel cover

If You were Me and Lived in Israel
Ill by Kelsea Wierenga

Join Carole P. Roman when she visits the exciting land of Israel in the newest book of her informative series. Learn about the varied customs and cultures. Travel to the Middle East to discover what you would eat and do for fun. See the land through the eyes of a youngster like you and understand what life is like in this exciting place.

If You were Me and Lived in Israel sampleDon't forget to look at the other books in the series so that you can be an armchair world traveler.

it's hard to believe this is book 19 in the series! Once again Carole does an excellent job of bringing a foreign country to kids, and making its customs, history and social norms, not only understandable, but entertaining! Kelsea blends photographs with illustrations, to make Israel come alive for kids. Carole does skirt around the Israel/Palestine issue, allowing parents to decide if they want to talk about that after the book is read. This is a great book to add to the collection!

And finally, when you're sick, having something FUN to do is JUST the ticket!
