Synopsis:

An elusive killer is viciously murdering members of a football team in this next DCI Lorimer mystery from internationally bestselling author Alex Gray

When Chief Inspector Lorimer returns from his holiday on the island of Mull, he feels a welcome sense of calm. But it doesn't last long. Kelvin Football Club's new star midfielder is found brutally stabbed to death in his own home, and with his wife apprehended trying to leave the country, a seemingly straightforward new case begins.

But the grisly murder of a referee after a Kelvin match throws light on some dark secrets. And when the newest player who signed to the club becomes the latest victim in a string of killings, Lorimer knows there's a serial killer on the loose - one that's only beginning to show his true colors. As lies emerge and tensions build, Lorimer must discover the truth before one of the players or managers become the next Kelvin fatality.

Review:

This is actually book 5 of the currently 13 book series, but as it is published abroad, we get them delayed here. Alex always gives us so much info on Scotland, and this book is no different, as we get to learn about the Hebrides Islands in the beginning of the book, as Lorimer comes back from vacation there. Then the book gives us a crash course in British football, that will leave American readers understanding just how much like out professional sports teams it can be, with all the jealousies, backstabbing, comraderie and fanatics! But does Lorimer have a serial killer? Who could want to punish the team that badly by killing? What seems like am unsolvable case, as Lorimer suffers personal loss, finally breaks free in an unexpected way, allowing Lorimer to solve the case, and all its rabbit trails. This was a sound edition to the series and a good one to start with, as it can stand alone, thanks to the bit of background that is given. But I highly recommend reading all of the books- I will be!
