With Back to School comes a tendency to let some Summer activities,
like bible study, fall to the side.

But thanks to this new video game, that doesn't have to happen!

Embark on epic quests! Join the Resistance and work with the mysterious Scarlet Man against the evil Usurper. Puzzle, quest and craft your way through a fantastic steampunk world that is ruled by the self-proclaimed Emperor’s Automatons and smothered by the poisonous fog. The Aetherlight is where point and click meets RPG!

Do you remember the first time you walked through the wardrobe into Narnia™? The story of Narnia brought a theology into our hands and hearts through immersing young readers in the grand narrative of the scriptures. They may never have been aware, but the story of the Bible told through allegory, impacted the way they viewed this world and their part in it.

The Aetherlight: Chronicles of the Resistance™ tells the same story, as Narnia did, but in a refreshed and invigorated way, to recapture a digital generation with the grand story of God.By closely following the story of the Bible, but in a steampunk inspired land, players are able to make the connections and discoveries for themselves, and see the Bible stories in a new light.

Review:

First off, WOW- this is a FREE game?

Seriously, go back and look (different video) at the colors, the action, the entire world built for this game. I can't believe it is pay to play! Miss Grace was instantly drawn to the game thanks to it having a) a female lead warrior, b) being able to play AS a female character and c) it rivaled all the adventure games she loves! What I loved is how the violence is gratuitous, and she can SEE consequences.

While there were some bible references in the beginning, she really did catch them right away, as she was SO immersed into getting into the new world of The Aetherlight. I have to admit, she sorta got addicted the first 3 days and I was constantly the 'bad guy' for taking her tablet away from her! LOL. The game so effectively engages kids in the story, that they really don't realize they ARE learning important moral lessons, along with bible analogies! Do';t you LOVE it when kids don't realize how much they are learning, until suddenly they share the BIG analogy with you, like they've discovered a lost secret?

The game is designed for pre-teens, and Miss Grace at age 10 was able to pick up everything VERY quickly! You are able to go in while setting up your parent account and make some setting changes. For example, I disabled chat, which she wasn't thrilled with, as she can't "ask for help, just have to wave my hand, to other characters playing the game' . But due to her age, I just didn't want to allow chat right now, until I was able to monitor more and see how it was handled. So that is something to keep in mind, if you are letting younger pre-teens play the game.

The Aetherlight Facebook and Twitter pages do a great job in showcasing the bible analogies, allowing parents to be able to use the game as not only conversation starters, but for applicable bible study usage! It would be quite easy to add a little video gaming to your kids' daily routine, and then follow up with family discussion, for a modern 'unit study' for homeschoolers, for their bible credit!

So if you;re looking for a way to get your kids interested in bible stories, in a 'big kid' way, this game might be JUST the ticket!
