With the holidays upon us, it can be really hard to sort through ALL the great devotionals out there, to find one for tweens and teens.
Today I have a great book for you, that is perfect for gift giving to those hard to buy for kids, from a voice you know as a great author for tweens already: Natalie Grant.
As you now, Natalie is the author of the Glimmer Girls book series, which Miss Grace has adored!
Synopsis:
In Glimmer and Shine: 365 Devotions to Inspire, author and award-winning recording-artist, Natalie Grant, challenges and inspires girls ages 8 and up to be their best selves throughout every daily devotion filled with Bible verses, thought-provoking readings, prayers and interactive weekend pages that include quizzes, coloring pages and more. Girls can be confident and have fun when they decide to follow Jesus. Growing in faith, building up confidence, and trusting God even when we may not know where He is leading can be an adventure when His promises fill each moment. This two-color book of devotions with a ribbon marker and decorated cover provides inspiration for each new day. Glimmer and Shineis designed to speak directly to every type of girl, encouraging each individual reader to take a journey! A journey Faithgirlz readers won’t want to miss
Review:
Grant has 2 daughters, so she understands that girls can get weighed down by devotions that are too 'preachy' and require extended time and study. So she has made this book with quick and easy devotions. As you can see above, from today's page (yes, it is day 325 of the year, WHERE did the year GO????), each day has a bible verse to ponder, then either the devotion, like above, OR an activity, like below, and then a prayer/focus on how to apply the devotion to their life.
As you can see, the fun pages include coloring, crossword and search puzzles, and even logic puzzles. They are a fun break from reading, yet also offer the girls a chance to focus their thoughts. So by adding a nice set of colored pencils and a small notbook to this book, you have a lovely gift set for giving to a tween or young teen, this holiday season!
The book is also easy to carry, for nights away from home, and because it isn't dated, it can be started at any time during the year, making it also a great gift for confirmation and birthdays! The devotions speak to events that affect tweens and teens especially, but even young adults may still get much cuncel from the readings, which is why I included it under YA books! I would recommend it for girls 10 and older, as I think the 8-10 range is too young for some of the devotionals. It is another winner from Natalie and the Faithgirlz series!
