Synopsis:

Discover the critical link between your brain and the food you eat, change the way you think about how your brain ages, and achieve optimal brain performance with this powerful new guide from media personality and leading voice in health Max Lugavere

After his mother was diagnosed with a mysterious form of dementia, Max Lugavere put his successful media career on hold to learn everything he could about the workings of the human brain and his mother’s condition. For the better half of a decade, he consumed the most up-to-date scientific research, talked to dozens of scientists and clinicians around the world, and visited the country’s very best neurology departments.

Now, in Genius Foods, Lugavere uncovers the stunning link between our dietary and lifestyle choices and our brain health, revealing how the foods you eat directly affect your ability to focus, learn, remember, create, analyze new ideas, and maintain a healthy, balanced mood. He presents ground-breaking science and distills the latest research, including:

- How food is like software for our endlessly capable minds;
- How select nutrients can actually boost working memory and processing speed;
- How slowing down the cognitive aging process is just as much about the foods you omit from your diet as the superfoods that you consume;
- And how easy it is to modulate the quality of your thoughts and mood by food.

In the vein of groundbreaking bestsellers such as David Perlmutter’s Grain Brain, Tim Ferriss’ Four Hour Body, and Dave Asprey’s Bulletproof Diet, Genius Foods presents a comprehensive, practical roadmap to optimizing the brain’s health and performance today—and decades into the future.

Review:

This might seem like an odd choice for a Valentine's Day gift idea, BUT what could be better than giving someone LONGER to live, in a better state of mind? And yes, you have to place a pre-order, but give a card with it's info and a gift basket, and you have a Valentine's Day that will LAST more than a couple of days!

Understanding brain biology is not a simple task, but Max gives us a book that is So easy to read, that you may find yourself 3 chapters in without realizing it! Is everything in the book proven without a doubt? Some yes, some are still being tested. But, and this is key, Max only brings what has shown in VALID, neutral testing to be true. And that gives YOU a firm foundation to accept the ideas he is giving you. if you have done any research on how the government and it's 'studies' have contributed to so many false 'health beliefs for the past 40 years, you will be very interested to see how max breaks down the history of what we eat and why.

Sometimes I think I'm the only one who reads press releases to find new medical trials and info! But with Miss Grace's medical issues, I found that walking into a doctor's office well prepared, allowed us to move so much more forward, by cutting out explanation and trial process, and allow us to try methods that may not be typical, but have worked SO much better for her. I was happy to see quite a few of our discoveries also in this book. By no surprise, Max started his research for this book, based on his mother's bad health- that seems to be common reason for 'med sleuths' to be born.

This book is an eye-opener (literally) in what we SHOULD eat and what isn't healthy for us, and WHY. While some of his stats might just scare you (like when patient's get diagnosed with Parkinson's they tend to have lost HALF of the brain cells they need!). Some of the info seems like common sense, like giving up processed foods. You might be surprised to see that you need to give up whole grains and opt for green leafy greens instead. Though most of us will agree, we feel SO much better after a large salad, than a bowl of 'modern' grains. BUT when you look at the evidence Max gives you, it makes sense. Increased medical issues have increased when we left a 'real food' diet. Check out this great interview with Max about the book, and you'll see what I mean, about you really NEED this book, to reset your life and diet by making small changes that can really add up, the more you make them a major part of your life.
