One of the things I hated about Miss Grace's private scool, was their insistence that the kids write in block lettering. They learned cursive, but it was used only for their names, which made NO sense to me, who went predominantly through Catholic schools, where we HAD to write in cursive, once we learned how. Why teach it, only to leave it behind? SIGH..
CursiveLogic uses a logical approach, one that I had to admit, was pretty similar to how the nuns had taught me, to teach cursive letters with their CursiveLogic Quick-Start Pack. The Quick-Start Pack includes the workbook you see above (and below), as well as acccess to the Webinar. teh program is aimed at kids ages 7 and above (even adults) and is a 10-week program, but we most homeschoolers work through it more quickly (as we did, Miss Grace is almost finished). The webinar is really important for parents/teachers to view. It helps you start your student off on the right foot, from the beginning. Little things like paper placement CAN make a huge difference in achieving the proper slant and line when writing cursive. But if you have a left-handed student and you're right handed, it's not as simple as reverse imaging. the webinar can be REALLY helpful in those situations! It also helps the teacher understand how the method is taught, and what to focus on each step of the way, and what to look for, for corrections and advancement.
But I know you're wondering how WELL the program actually works!

I knew it would make such a difference to not just write sentences, but to go over the structre of cursive!

As you can see, cursive isn't taught letter by letter through the alphabet, but rather, in a shape-based approach, where students learn four letter strings. All the letters in the strings not only share a common shape, but by connecting them together, your student can learn HOW to connect the letters to others, AS they learn the letter itself!
As I've shared, Miss Grace is dyslexic, so having a multisensory approach to cursive learning, that uses color, movement, verbal, and auditory tools, really speaks to the WAY she learns, and made the book easy for her to start and work her way through. But really the method works for any child, and any learning style! She really liked that she wasn't just writing letters over and over (best way to create boredom and inattention), but had words to write, and practice her stringing together of letters, which is her weakest area. You'll notice I did use sheet protectors over the pages, so she could redo pages as needed. And yes, her posture isn't perfect, she did the facing page fine and took a break, but when she sat back down for the second page, she turned to listen to the lecture we had playing and slumped. I snapped the picture and then corrected her. Before the webinar, I would have just let her keep on writing! But the HUGE thing for me, is she's slanting her pages, which she NEVER would before! It now makes SENSE to her, as to why you slant your page! Trust me, that was a HUGE miracle for us!

WOW- can you believe how much in 3 and a half weeks, this workbook made?
In the sample above she was writing WITHOUT lines. I was so amazed at how her line spacing improved. She was getting impatient by the 4th and 5th lines above, hence not staying straight. That is something that I have foundhappends with her. So by giving her a mini-break, after half a page, she tends to do each perfectly!
Miss Grace said she had never really thought about how the letters connected and had the same shape, which would make sense, as her lettering was all over the place, with lower case letters the size of capitals, etc. But now, she has a physical muscle memory of forming the letters and the process is stored in her long-term memory, so her writing is now consistent! YEAH!
When Miss Grace completes the workbook, then she'll get to move on to the The Art of Cursive coloring book, that can help adults to refresh their cursive skills (or even learn them for the first time), while having pages to share their creativity as well! miss Grace adores adult coloring books, so it only makes sense to use the book as a mini-reward for completing the first course, and she won't realize she really IS still working on her cursive, just not as much! Sneaky Mom!
This is an amazing course, that works SO SO SO much better than most courses for hometeaching out there. the webinar gives you the skills YOU need to teach cursive, and the workbook helps your kids master cursive! You can even share some parent-child creativity time with the Art of Cursive book, making this a course that does more than just teach!
