Which is Older?

With all the hub bub over NOLA's 300th birthday this year, Miss Grace recently got to thinking about how lucky she has been-not only did she take dance classes in the NOLA area and we have visited many historical areas in NOLA, but now she's dancing in Mississippi, in the oldest city there, which predates NOLA!

This amazing coastal community was discovered in 1699 by French explorer Pierre Le Moyne d'Iberville, making it the first capital of the French territory, and one of the oldest towns on the Gulf coast! Initially known as Fort Maurepas, Ocean Springs didn’t get its current name until 1854, when it was renamed by Dr. William Glover Austin, who believed the local mineral springs had curative powers. The area where Miss Grace is standing, is the amazing downtown area, of Washington Avenue, which is still a wonderful area to visit, to eat/shop, as it looks much the same as it did in the late 1800s!

So there you go, your little bit of history for the day!
