Review:

I had to laugh when I started reading the book, as what the author calls boro, was what my grandmother used to call 'getting the value out of an item'. As a master seamstress, if she BOUGHT clothing, it was meant to LAST. So patches and darns were the norm, to keep the items in use as long as possible! When it came to my clothes, especially when I was little, she was all about making it fun, with animal shapes and fun colors!

As you can see, the book really does teach everything from sweaters to jeans, to pants to jackets and more! It starts off with simple hand sewing techniques and stitches, and simple fixes, then on to making simple patches of your own, for decoration. It's quite amazing how a 'fix' can sometimes transform a jacket for example, into a one-of-a kind original! These days where kids all want to be seen in the same clothes, it's like a breathe of fresh air! if your kid like originality, this might be the PERFECT book for them to bring out their inner designer!

Besides the creativity, there is the practical guide. Darning is a lost art, but should be taught! There is no need to toss out that $80 sweater, if a small quarter size hole can be darned and make the sweater useful again! most of the techniques require only what you probably have in the house already, or can find at your local craft store. It's a fun book that teens and tweens will love, as they become their own designers!
