Naturally Miss Grace couldn't wait to check out the Ireland book, which is new to the  By the Way Book Series!

The series was begun on the idea that not enough parents incorporate talking about God in everyday lessons with their kids. By providing books kids want to read, including topics they love-animals and science, they offer parents a way to incorporate God's word, and provide lessons too! The books feature a pair of siblings, Alex and Lexi, and have them traveling to different locations, with their family, As you can see, the books incorporate both illustration and photography, to really grab kids' interest, and keep it. For this book, the kids were going to Ireland to visit cousins they had never seen.

I love how the history of Ireland was explained in the book, including the truth about St. Patrick, and the Irish famine. Miss Grace quickly grasped the comparison between the Irish and the Cherokees, when discussing the diaspora in the book. It was a great seque way for us to discuss why there is an alliance between the two nation's, to this day, as well. I love when books can illicit more learning, don't you?

I did have to laugh though, when Miss Grace turned to this page:

Because she starting singing an Irish song she learned at Irish dance camp years ago, AN MAIDRÍN RUA. I had no idea she still remembered it! But one she got started she knew almost all of t still! It;s ac ute song, that is quite catchy, so sorry if it stays in your head, like it has mine!

She said they should have included a link in the book for that song too, when talking about the foxes, as the music of Ireland is so important to the culture! And the book was missing some Irish dancing pictures of course, too lol.

We both loved the Bible quotes throughout the book, they  really helped add to the meaning of the areas being talked about, and showed how the Bible should be our go-to book!

One of the fun activities in the nooknwas the 'Find the Pictures'  section. Miss Grace and I had fun competing to see who would find them all first!
Overall this was more than just a history of Ireland book. It was a story of family, both near and far, and the culture of a place, that is defined not only by it's people, but by their faith, their natural environment and God'beauty all around them. And it's a great way to introduce kids to genealogy and the idea of tracing your family's history!
