100+ iPhone/iPad Tricks You Can Do Right Now cover

Synopsis:

Using iPhones and iPads, people usually just do the minimum in order to accomplish what they think they need to - and that goes for all age groups. Most folks text, check the internet, use the phone, maybe use a couple of apps, take pictures and share them. Baby boomers and seniors ask their kids and grandkids for help all too often and receive the infamous "eye roll" or irritated expressions. Gen X'ers are often too busy to take the time to learn hacks that would save them time and increase their productivity. Whatever the age group, too many do not know that their productivity can be enhanced by accessing this easy-to-use "recipe" books to save them time, money, and frustration.

Apps that receive a major makeover with new features in iOS 12 include:
- Camera - portrait mode upgrades
Photos - edit live photos
- iMessage - use Apple Pay to send money to a contact
- Safari - read website articles later, offline
- Siri - let Siri set up your rides with Uber & Lyft

In the same way that Julia Child simplified French cooking by using recipes and precise measurements, these tricks are step-by-step instructions that guide the reader.

Review

Ok, forewarning first: I HATE Apple! We have been an Android family for as long as possible, and I only had an iPhone for 5 months as a loaner, until I could get a new Android one, when I ran over my old one. Until this past Christmas, Apple never came back in our house. BUT, Miss Grace is dyslexic and if you aren't aware, most of the apps FOR dyslexic kids, to help them with school work are....you got it...ONLY on Apple. Sigh, head bang! Hello iPad.....ughhhhh.

So for BOTH of us, it has been a learning curve, as she only used her dad's iPad on rare weekends, and only for game apps. Some of the really cool items we've found in this book are:
- how to raise her iPad to wake it, without the code!!!
- using bedtime mode to cut down on her usage, and to help me monitor what she IS doing!
- how to turn her iPad into a portable magnifying glass
- learning to search for people in her photos, to quickly find them
- sending handwritten messages
- how to share work in Notes with others, and all use it real time (great for coop!)
- how to create a PDF in Safari, when she's researching info, and how to save it for offline access
- using Siri to translate, and how to make her Irish (of COURSE!)
- how to recover accidental deletions (life saver!)
and more!

Miss Grace has been glued to this guide since I got it in! She now feels MUCH more confident in using the iPad as a fully functioning school tool, and not just as an entertainment device. And she's learned enough that it truly is becoming her go-to device over her laptop! While I still prefer my Android, I can see where the two can work well together on a iPad to give you better mobility. So if you have a new iOS device, or an older one that you don't know much about, be sure to check out this book, to what your device CAN do for you too!
