The kids have been back in school for a month now at least, and some of you have seniors, and they are facing some very big decisions:
- do they go to college?
- if so, what degree are they going to take?
- if not, are they going itno an apprenticeship?
- or are they going to see a vo-tech degree?

If you have a homeschooler, more than likley you've explored these options and the varied careers already. But if not, your high schooler, might just be confused. But a solutioon is at hand, from CashCrunch Games, that can lead them in the right direction: CashCrunch Careers!

You may rememebr those careers surveys from high school, that you hated to take. This is NOT one of those old-fashioned tests, it is a modern look at how we see careers NOW! CashCrunch Careers takes research from both the corporate world and the US Department of Labor and combines it all into a simple survey that delves into your child's personality and traits, gives them an analsis of those personality traits, and then comes up with a list of careers that could suit them. Because it is based on questions that your child answers, the results ARE their core personality. We don't often think about personality influincing our careers, but if you don't have patience for example, then how could you be a nurse?

The questions may make your child pause and come to you, for your opinion! Many are very easy, but some can make them shake their heads in confusion, as they aren't sure which is the stronger trait of the 2. I do like how the questions vary, so the same trait is double and triple checked. The survey only takes about 10-15 minutes, so your child can slot it in after dinner, or before school!

As you can see, the program offers you more than JUST a report. You get info on whether your child's temperament is SUITABLE to handle the demands of college. You get an idea what their motivators are as well, and that helps you to get them THROUGH Senior year too! Take a look at how thorough Miss Grace's was on this section:

I had to laugh when I read it, as it thoroughly describes my child, LOL. And it also shows why she has THRIVED in a homeschool environment! It also heloed her to umderstand that she needed a career that would offer her VARIETY every day, and not be the same boring routine. It also listed her top attributes as Leadership, Innovation, Analytical Thinking, Persistence and Independence, all of which are VERY accurate! But the report also helped her to understand what I had been telling her-that her dyslexia does NOT rule her- that WHO she is will be what people see. And you CAN download and print the report, so your cild can look at it any time they need to!

As you can see, as your child clicks into the individual careers listed under their report, theyget detailed info about each of them, including the Tasks andActivities of each job, as well as the Abilities, Skills, Attributes and Work Values, needed to succeed in the career. For example, under construction Manager, Miss Grace was surprised to see it come up, but then when she looked at the skills needed, she saw that she HAS those skills. It was a career she had never thought of! The other info you get are colleges that offer degrees in that career as well as videos that show case them. These are REALLY great to give kids a look at different jobs they might not be aware of!

The best thing is that this site is not static! They will be updating it continually, so new jobs and changes in jobs are noted, as well as new colleges, and ones that drop degree programs! That means that ALL the kids in your family will be able to use this program, to see into THEIR future! AND they even have a free finance game page on their CashCrunch 101  site, that helps kids learn about money- how to budget it, save it and stay ahead. That can help them with career choices too!

And what about YOU?

Yes YOU!

Did you know that the average work span for us is now 50 years? If you are a stay at home mom, that means you've got 20-30 year where you can have a career not involving your kids! Do YOU know what you want to do?

Oh Oh.
Exactly!

Take the survey for yourself too! Then when your 'first' career is over, you can have an idea of what you want to do NEXT! I wasn't really surprised to see that management and teaching came up VERY high for me! Since I started homeschooling, me teaching in varied locations has been increasing! So that MAY be an option for me, post retirement!

The only thing I would like to see altered in the survey is a 'likes' addition. For example, Miss Grace REALLY loves science and discovering things. While the survey asked questions about her being inquisitive and having anyaltical thinking, I think a few pointed questions might help narrow down the career field, and maybe offer some other options too!

This is a GREAT program, and OH SO much better than those old paper quizzes we had back in high school! And what a relief to see BEFORE your child gets to college, and can't handle it, that it might not be the best option for them! Now it's not just YOU telling them to invest in their future from the beginning, but a computer program, something that today's generation understands and responds too!

Overall I was surprised to see HOW much Miss Grace is like me on personality traits. I kenw she was my 'mini-me', BUT there are so many differencces, I wasn't expecting her to be so close! Taking the survey with your child might actually be a help for them to see how much they ARE like you!  But don't take my word for how great this program is- check out what my fellow reviewers, and their kids though too by clicking on the photo below:
