Math Whizz
Even though Miss Grace is technically ahead in her math studies, there are some areas, wher she is a bit behind, mostly in part due to her dyslexia. So when I found out that Whizz Education has a new math online tutoring program, Math-Whizz, I knew it might be JUST what we needed to get her on an equal footing!

Math Whizz is unique in that it is a program that can be shared by schools, parents and students alike. So that way it isn't just the child seeing any improvement, or not, but their parents AND teacher, can see where they need more help, in case they aren't understanding something. It's an unique way to have a combined effort to get your child ahead!

Your child will love the program as they get rewarded for all their efforts, so they WANT to come back over and over. And because they're having FUN, they don't really realize how much they are LEARNING! And the best part is that Math-Whizz can help your child improve their math age by 18 months in the first year!

Math Whizz has been around for 12 years, so they KNOW how much an individualized approach can really work to take a child fromt the bottom of their bottom math age, to their top one!

When you first sign your child up on Math-Whizz, they take an assessment test. Math-Whizz gives your child common math questions based on their actual age. Some may be ahead of their grade level, others below, or at level. This allows their program to see where their strengths and weaknesses are.

math-whizz assessment

For Miss Grace, I was actually surprised to see how well the assessment matched her end of the year testing, at the end of last school year. There have been some areas, like multiplication, we've been working on, but we had reached a wall on it, and others like more work needed on intergers also made sense, as that is literally coming up in her regular math lessons in 2 weeks! She also has a tendency to do less well on assessments when they are timed, so I knew that would be a factor as well. Even though there was no clock ticking, she felt like it was, resulting in her rushing some answers.

As your child starts their lessons, they get updated at the end, with a small tets, usually about 5 questions, and then assessed reward points, based on how well they do. As you can see, as they go forward in their lessons, their time map gets bigger, and the mountain is forested with more trees, which results in more reward points, Then they can see for themselves just how much they are earning. You can check out some of the sample lessons on the Matt-Whizz website.

math-whizz video board

Miss Grace has loves the video tutorials, they have helped her SO much! They are funny and cute, and totally kid friendly. If she takes a test and doesn't do well, she can go back and look at the tutorial again, and then retest and it seems to be working well for her. Sometimes she just wasn't giving it her full attention, other times it might have been because the test was timed, and she wants to make sure she knew what she was doing.

You can check out some of the sample lessons on the Matth Whizz website

Additionally, kids can compete with each other, via the MyBuddies section. This is great for kids in the same class, to offer an in-class incentive. For us, homeschooling, we have more video lessons, and once Miss Grace gets caught up, then moving forward it will be her pre-Algebra lessons, and I'll supplement with additional work as needed!

math-whizz parent dashboard

As a parent, I love how the dashboard lets me look at more than just how my child is doing. it gives me an overall picture, showing the change in her math age, how long she is on each lessons/period, and what improvement is being made.

Both of us LOVE  Math-Whizz, it was the answer to our Math problems! Each week Miss Grace has progressed and I can see where she will be caught up probably BEFORE one year! If your child is having Math issues, Math-Whizz might be YOUR solution too! Check out what our fellow reviewers think, so see how it works for different ages, by clicking the picture below:
