I'll be sharing some GREAT Irish books with you,
leading up to St. Patrick's day, and this is one of them!

where she lies cover

Synopsis:

In a town full of liars, no one is safe.
When Detective Finnegan Beck is demoted from his high-powered job in Dublin and relocated in disgrace to the small Irish town of Cross Beg, he predicts boredom will be his biggest threat.
It’s a sleepy backwater, a forgotten town of narrow alleyways that lead from the cathedral down to the river, and towards the bogland beyond. It’s a place where seemingly nothing – good nor bad – has happened. Not for a long time.
But when a teenage girl is found dead in the woods a mile from town, and a seemingly-harmless local drifter is arrested, Beck has an instinct that someone with far darker motives is behind the crime.
It seems that everyone in Cross Beg has something to hide though. Wading through layers and layers of lies, and generations upon generations of secrets, he believes he’s finally getting closer to the truth.
That is, until the killer strikes again…

Review:

It's hard to believe this is a debut novel! The book reads like it is already in the middle of a series, and the Finnegan feels like a character you've known for years, who has had his troubles and is now facing the results of them. It will be interesting to see if new books in the series go back and look at events that lead him to Cross Beg. He is a character that is not only flawed, but brilliant (think PBS' Sherlock Holmes), with few friends and some bad habits. And those friends may get him into more trouble than he can handle, while he lays 'low' and tries not to solve the murder at hand, though he can't help getting involved and doing so! This is a book you'll race through and beg for another (and good news, Michael is signed on for 2 more!)!

Note
the book was previously known as The Quiet Hours, in case you come across that and think it's a new book in the series!

About the Author:
I am a civilian employee of the An Garda Siochana (the Irish police force), but a life threatening undiagnosed illness that struck while travelling in Spain in 2014 has rendered me on long term sick leave. I am married to Eileen and have a daughter, Sarah. I live in the countryside outside the town of Ballina in County Mayo. The town has arguable the best salmon river in Europe, called the Moy.
