Synopsis:

One Dish - Four Seasons: Food, Wine, and Sound - All Year Round is not your average cookbook. It's a fully immersive experience and seasonal journey. In this family collaboration and labor of love, we take a base recipe and by varying certain ingredients seasonally available, we churn out four versions, a winter, spring, summer, and fall. 20 dishes x 4 seasons = 80 recipes (plus a round of cocktails, of course). Each dish is then paired with a wine and a music album, further exploring the seasonality of these three elements of entertaining. It's sprinkled with tons of jokes, layers, thoughtful attention to detail, and sophistication. A dash of humor, a pinch of personality, and a sprinkle of family lore round out the pages.

Q&A With Jordan:

1. What is your education/career background?
I was a math major at UPenn and I unofficially minored in Spanish and Theater Arts. I then studied architecture at Harvard the summer after I graduated Penn. Then I pocketed my degrees and moved out to Hollywood to act. I had various day jobs along the way, mostly in bookkeeping and tutoring. I worked with Headcount which partnered with music venues and bands to get people registered to vote. I started Girls Guide to Sports about ten years ago. But my favorite “career” to list is “stay-at-home-mom to my dog

2.  When did you first realize you wanted to be a writer? Or what first inspired you to write?
Definitely not in college – I was a math major because I’d rather do a weekly problem set than weekly paper back then! I think it became a byproduct of creating my own content as an actor.

3. Where/When do you best like to write?
I’m not a morning person. My brain and personality don’t kick in until midday. I usually write at my desk in my office but can usually get into a zone anywhere if I push myself.

4.  Do you have any interesting writing habits or superstitions?
An old family drinking superstition was that the last drop of the wine bottle couldn’t go to a woman or she’d be an old maid (likely rooted from the old maid card game and also likely created by a man). This has grown tiresome with multiple bartenders around the world and also my bare left ring finger so I’ve been known to abandon its absurdity in recent days.

5. What inspired your book?
I subscribed to the old adage of “write what you know.”

Review:

Need a basic cookbook that celebrates the bounty of each of our 4 seasons, yet gives you new takes on old favorites with West Coast/East Coast zing? Then THIS is the book for you! It's hip, modern, and yet down home basic all at the same time! Now don't forget the photography that will have you salivating like Pavlov's dog, and it's a cookbook you just don't want to put down! And if you want to use the recipes for a party, no worries there either- Jordan not only gives you the perfect wine pairing (well tested!), but also MUSIC pairings, so all you need to worry about is the food and friends! We all can say "Amen!" to those time savers! It's a lovely cookbook, and the recipes are perfect for those just starting to cook, and intermediate cooks. Even professional cooks might see some flavor combinations they haven't tried too! It would make a lovely holiday hostess gift, with a lovely serving bowl or tart pan! Don't miss this all season book!
