Review:
Books aimed at teens sometimes aim too high (ie for kids about to go to college) or too low (not dealing with things teens experience every day). This book strikes the right balance! Because my about to be 13 yr old is homeschooled, she is around older teens and adults, and thanks to her dysleix, tends to see more of a big picture/older frame of reference, so I knew this book would probably suit her better, and I was right. The book gives teens some info on ADHD, then tackles the 3 areas that concern them- school, the outside world and 'real life'.
My daughter REALLY loved the section on how to share about her ADD and what to do when sharing DOESNT help, and adults refuse assistance. That is something she has dealt with recently, so she was very glad to have the helpful tips to get her past the impass. Organization and focus are also her 2 main areas that need to be addressed right now, and I was happy to see how she used the book to undersatnd what her distractions are, and how to better handle themWhile she may make fun of me for making lists, the book helped her to understand how lists can help keep HER focused and on track, both in schoolwork, and with her chores and goals.
Overall this is a very sound workbook and we highly recommend it to anyone with pre-teens/teens who have ADD and ADHD!
